Beer Friday. Original 16 Canadian Pale Ale

Oh dear! Have I gone right from "Music Monday" to "Beer Friday" with no content in between again? Nothing, absolutely nothing... Not even a cheesy Youtube video for "blog filler!" I took my bike to work two days this week and failed at the driving to Mill Creek and starting to ride part. I didn't do unproductive things like watch my friend play "Combat ops" or whatever the hell it's called on the Playstation. I did do things with my kids so in the end I won. At least I think I did. That bike sure looked good tonight during the picture shoot though!

Original 16 hails from Saskatoon Saskatchewan. A city much like Edmonton that has people turning their noses up at but once you go there you are amazed on how awesome it is! Wait a minute! I've never been there so I don't really know what it's like! I've heard lot's of good things though.... How about their river valley? Is it fabulous like a certain river valley in this fair land? Yes you say? Well maybe I'll head there this Summer and have a browse...

This beer originated in 1989 when former employees of a certain "unnamed" brewery started their own after the big guys decided to close up shop. Named after what I thought was a hockey slogan "Original Sixteen" I soon realized what a poor Canadian I was and it had nothing to do with hockey. The name came from the sixteen members who started it. Quite cool actually! They remain independent to this day which makes this here beer reviewer stand up and salute!

The pour was beautiful. Golden and gave a generous two fingered head that would make even the most self righteous non beer supporter blush. The smell made me stand back and sniff again... "Could this potentially be the best beer I reviewed thus far?" I thought to myself. Fearful of letdown I took a sip and was not let down. Yet I wasn't convulsing with beer tasting orgasms like one should on a Friday night. It was good... Great? That's a hard fence to climb over soldiers! My mouth cried for more! Yes, it's smooth and a tad on the creamy side and does what it's supposed to on a Friday night. But... do I want more? Yes!

Beer Friday. Boris Bold

After a return to the riding, a return to the beer reviews is promptly on order. "Weeks of slow inactivity on here posting up you tube videos must come to an end!" Said lonebiker.com's executive assistant to the non existent Vice President, Herb Schingleb of Pensacola Florida. Wow! That is one powerful man helping run this blog! I'd better get my shit together!

From Saverne, France comes a beer that packs a wallop! An 8.6% wallop that is, in the past I've been scared of strong beers. In fact you may have read about it, laughing at me and calling me a girly little bitch who can't drink strong beer. Oh ya, I heard you mocking me through through the thick walls of the interwebs, pointing your fingers at the screen and mocking me! Well guess what? Strong beer doesn't scare me anymore! I've reviewed enough on here to not be afraid.

The pour was an adventure as the head was so large I thought it was going to exit from the glass and set on world domination starting with my poor ass in Beaumont, and then moving on to Edmonton, then the province... As soon as it rose it dissipated and I was relieved and quickly put down the phone and hung up on the 911 operator. The first sip gave me no real strong beer shivers and I was a tad relieved. Sadly though, you could tell this is a strong beer. Something I'm really not a fan of. Beer is made to be savoured. Not drunk quickly. And sadly, I think this beer is made to get hosed quickly. I am almost finished my can, which by the way survived a ride tonight (for that I give it high marks) but truth be told. I'm feeling it, and I drank it slow. If you want to get pissed drunk in a hurry, buy this beer! If you want to enjoy a few watching a hockey game, try something else. If you'll excuse me now, the police are at the door.

Beer Friday. Wells IPA

I had wanted to do the first ever wine review on here tonight but was shut down by the higher ups that be. Well the higher ups being NFL football, and realizing I'm not allowed to drink wine on such a sanctimonious weekend of divisional playoffs. Oddly enough I didn't have a drip of beer until now; a good twenty minutes after the last game. So I guess I could have had the wine... You see how I sometimes over think things! This happens quite a bit and can be quite serious and thankfully have meds to take care of my problems. Sadly two of those "meds" are put away for the season and the one that "goes" is having the bicycle version of a quadruple tripass.

Wells makes it's home in England and is actually named Wells & Young's brewery after a merger between Charles Wells Brewery and Young's in 2006. The company is very proud to be independent and between the two has over twenty five beers in their lineup.

Wells IPA is the leading imported India Pale Ale coming into Canada which is probably why I found it so easily on a somewhat cold snowy Beaumont night. Or is it that Beaumont liquor stores are quite competitive as there is four with a rumoured fifth opening up in such a small town... Fubar

The pour was unsuccessful as I was holding the glass the wrong way giving my a large head of foam that would have been useful if a jetliner crashed into my front yard. The smell was somewhat different compared to most common beers. Fruity hoppy goodness made its way into my nostrils and I was delighted. The taste was a tad nutty (Austin Powers forever ruined that reference) and slightly metallic when drunk from the can. That's why you pour beer into cups kids! As I did...

Beer Friday. Muskoka Harvest Ale

Four months past harvest? Why not! This bottle caught my eye the same way a bag of Doritos would attract many many potheads. It sat there in the store with a light beckoning from above. At first I thought it was heaven but quickly realised it was the lighting in the cooler... Silly me! Muskoka brewery, from Bracebridge Ontario resides in the heart of Ontario cottage country and it now proudly makes it's second lonebiker beer review appearance (oh , I'm sure they are damn proud!).

Their Harvest Ale is now in it's second year and is their Fall time brew. Yes I know it's now the dead of Winter so you can just pretend it's Fall time now o.k? This beer is packed with a punch. A 6.4% punch that is. I have had trouble in the past with strong beers, so I wasn't going to take shit from this beer. I started to show it who was boss right in the store by speaking loudly at the bottle, you know, making threats. There were other people in the store at the time and they moved away quite quickly once I uttered my menacing threats at the bottle. Ya! I can be badass when I want to be!

Once home I opened it up and was awestruck by the foggy goodness that was emanating from the bottle. It was at that moment I knew my threats had won over the heart of this strong beer. It sat for picture time with an attitude, and virtually no head. It was a one finger head (and you know which one that is) that quickly dissipated much to that of the dreams of a New York waitress. The first sip was what it was. A tad bitter, and then I had another and appreciated this beer for what it is. A craft beer made only once a year for the farmers... Or maybe the Oktoberfest people... I don't know. This one is a good, different but good. Buy a bottle and share it with friends (it's big) or just hog it all to yourself, the bottle is self closing you know.

Beer Friday. Molson Canadian

New years eve tomorrow night and my weekend has just begun after a fun week of inventory combined with a classic case of reorganizing. I was planning on reviewing one or two tomorrow night but after this week I couldn't hold back.

If you were on here two years ago you would have read an angry review on Molson Canadian where I; like many a douchebag on the internet had an open forum to trash something without fear of repercussion, and trash I did! What exactly was my problem back then? I have no idea? Some leftover angst form the Canadian custom agent giving me grief about my bike.... maybe. Well Molsons. Lets forget the past and become friends shall we. Even if I don't like you much on this here review?

Canadians have an inferiority complex. I blame that on big brother living next door. Most of us won't admit it but you know it's there. We feel great when attention is given towards us. The Vancouver Olympics was a great example, the Vancouver hockey riots. Not so much... Attention on anybody makes them feel great. Just saying somebody's name in conversation when your with them makes them feel all warm and fuzzy. Just talk to any high level business professional and they will say your name repetitively in a conversation. Molson Canadian has unbelievably great advertising. They hit all of our soft spots in 30 seconds making us proud of who we are. They show us winning hockey games, doing fun stuff in the mountains, playing hockey, doing fun stuff at the lake cottage, and of course watching hockey playoffs.

The pour gave us a nice crisp, cool, smooth and refreshing looking beer! Ironically like a beer commercial would show it. A two fingered head that didn't last long enough to get the camera ready after I set up my Barbies.... I mean my daughters Barbies! The first sip gave me some good old familiar 22 year old me love. I have not had this in a long time, in fact the last time was when I did the review on here a couple years ago and the taste was really quite... Ordinary. A slight skunky taste to make it more familiar. Yes Molson Canadian you are ordinary. But don't change cause I love you the way you are. Your great "Canadians kick ass" commercials and your image.... Ahh, I have tears of pride running down my cheeks.

Beer Christmas! Rolling Rock Extra Pale

A return to the beer reviews after a much needed vacation. The lonebiker pro beer police took some much needed time off as the pressure to review beer weighed them down heavily. What a bunch of giant pussies! All they have to do is drink beer and talk about it!

Rolling Rock comes from St Louis Missouri. Home of the Godless Rams and the current baseball champs. They are in St Louis as the giant Anhueser-Bush company now runs them. They started in western Pennsylvania and grew to be a national product which inevitably made Budweiser jealous so they bought them out (oh yes, I'm positive that's how it went down). One of the curious things about Rolling Rock is each bottle and can has the number "33" on it. Nobody know why there is a 33 but the myths are out there, one going so far as saying that number is the highest the Freemasons can get. That kind of shit creeps me out a little. But I get creeped out by clowns so I guess it doesn't take much.

The beer poured nice and golden and showed a giant head that was larger than my hand. Amazing? Is it not? I am quite out of practice with this beer review thing so my beer pouring talents have gone to shit! The taste was quite ordinary, much like you would get out of any Budweiser or Coors. There was nothing that stood out as I swirled it around my mouth, although some shot out my nose when I saw one of my dogs try to hump the angry birds plush toy laying on the ground. That kind of shit cracks me up! Would I recommend this beer? No. It bored me, unlike watching my dog fornicate with small plush toys. That my friends is good quality entertainment!

Beer Friday. Grey Cup Edition, Kokanee vs Labatt Blue

With the Grey Cup a mere two day the feeling was to do a battle royale between two beers that best represented the teams playing.

In the East, Labatt Blue representing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The west brings us Kokanee for the B.C Lions. Two beers that were reviewed on this site already if you just hit the links. The battle will feature everything about these beers that I feel like talking about at this given time, and they will be awarded points and it will be a guarantee lock to see who will win the Grey Cup! So if you plan on making a few bets I suggest you pay attention sucka!

History. Kokanee was a niche brand of beer in the B.C interior and was bought ironically (only to this review) by Labatt in 1974 and the brand grew more popular with some clever advertising. Labatt Blue's history goes back further to 1954 when Labatt started a new Pilsener Lager and named it after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. That alone gives Labatt a 10-0 lead after the first quarter, cause that my friends is pretty cool to have a beer named after your football team.

The overall appearance and with that marketing was something else that scored points, Blue was appropriately blue and featured a maple leaf with some wheat on it that made me feel all warm and fuzzy, but Kokanee features the mountains covered in snow bringing lustful dreams of playing in the holiest of holies. 10-7 Blue. A long search of youtube videos from both beers brought annoyance and frustration as to why it's so hard to find a good beer commercial. Kokanee wins this one hands down once I saw and remembered they put cute girls on mountain bikes and then put that on t.v. 14-10 Kokanee, halftime.

The pour gave us much of the same from both as far as colour goes, Kokanee retained it's head much longer giving them a late 3rd quarter field goal, the taste was close and looking at the archives I gave both beers 3.5 suds out of 5. Is this close or what? Drinking the beers head to head sadly gave me no real deciding factor on which one is better. They are both a bit above ordinary. With the final sip going down between these two I'd have to give a slight edge to Kokanee, but very slight. That looks like a safety to me...

Beer Friday. Sleeman Clear

After enjoying another late snow free November the snow showed itself and Winter came to us in a fury. The temperature right now is -18° and it took me forever tonight to warm up. A night out with the girls and I screamed like a baby and ran to the car every time we went outside. I'm not ready for this Winter thing! I realized it's time to suck it up, and being the genuine Canadian that I am I decided to drink cold beer and talk about it on this here Internet thing.

Sleeman brewery began in 1834 in Ontario by a guy named John Sleeman. Sadly prohibition closed their doors in 1933 for bootlegging into Detroit.... Wait a minute. That's so badass! I just grew a giant mound of respect for Sleeman beer and their badass bootlegging! I can see a bunch of well dressed guys driving Buick 8's armed with tommy guns crossing the border with their stash of alcohol for the dry Americans. I know the real story is far from that but the term "bootlegging" conjures up images that most likely don't even come close to resembling what really happened.

Sleeman Clear is described on their website as canada's first low carb beer (oh thank Heavens for that) with 90 calories which would equal a quick trip through Mill Creek ravine or maybe a little more. At 4% it claims to be easy drinking and after a few sips I see why. A far cry from the giant bottle of 8% French Canadian bottle that stood and stared at me on the shelf which said "whatcha looking at bitch?"prompting me to quickly turn around and grab my Sleemans and head for the register. I didn't pour it as the bottle just looked too damn good! The first sip seemed sour and carbonated and after a few more the sourness never really went away. Upset I threw the bottle at my dog and tried another... The same. It wasn't just soured with carbonation, it also tasted like water. Sleemans Clear had me at hello, but quickly lost me on taste.

Beer Friday. Pumphouse Blueberry Ale

I couldn't find a more appropriate beer to review for tonight after a rather rough few days. The barn which has been a staple in my wife's family for years came to an incredibly dramatic end on Wednesday night. A fire tore through the old structure within minutes and ended up an inferno that people could see from Edmonton a good 25 km away! Thankfully the wind was blowing in the right direction and nothing else was damaged and nobody was hurt. So in the end, they came out o.k as I believe it could have come out way worse. Still the shock of what happened is clearly evident with my wife and most of all. Her parents.

This does explain the slight inactivity on here, primarily with riding. I threw the towel in on two rides already in this amazing November weather we are having... Dang!

The beer for tonight is from a brewery named Pumphouse all the way from Moncton, New Brunswick. I read up on their website wondering when these crafty little buggers are going to talk about how their brewery is in an old firehall. It never came up and I found out later that the founder "Shaun" is a full time firefighter. Thus the connection...

I will come out and admit that blueberry beer isn't one I'd pick, but when searching for "fire themed beers" the picking is somewhat of a challenge. Pumphouse gives this brew a good dose of blueberries mixed with peppery blueberries, malts and spicy hops. Is this the perfect pre ride beer? I load up on blueberries before long rides and beer is beer thus....

No I don't recommend drinking before or during a ride. That kind of shit ain't cool boys and girls! I poured this into a glass and looked at the golden, blond beer colour and wondered how this will taste like blueberries. The smell was simply great! The blueberry and spiced hops made me cry tears of joy. But will it taste like it smelled and I became worried. The first reluctant sip went well and tears of joy ran down my cheeks. A few more sips and it was gone and I sat bewildered wondering what to do. "Oh ya! I have more upstairs" I screamed. The second was a winner as well, this is not what I was expecting when I bought it, it was great because the blueberries were not overpowering like alot of other fruit beers seem to be.

Beer Friday/Saturday. Tiger Beer

After missing last night's beer review all thanks to a bike ride, I decided to miss tonight's bike ride all thanks to a movie night... Stupid movies! They're cramping my riding style! Movies wouldn't ruin my riding if I wasn't married... Uh Oh, Only a few sentences in and I'm looking like a giant piece of ass. We all know I'm just kidding so...

Tiger beer is a proud Asian and is one of the areas "Budweiser" if you will. Headquartered in Singapore the beer's brewer "Asia Pacific Breweries" has breweries all over the place. Tiger Beer was launched in 1932. A time when people were probably wanting the harder stuff as opposed to beer, but I'm sure it helped soothe some people's worries.

For tonight's trip to the beer store to pick up a tester I can't remember seeing this blue and silver can as it stood out quite predominantly. Much like a nice high end bike would at a shop. Odd I thought after reading about how popular it is the world over. It got special acclaim on it's website saying how "popular" and "great" this beer is. How strange of a companies website to promote their product like that! The Detroit Tigers baseball team also has a strong tie to this beer but I can't quite figure it out...

The pour showed a big three fingered head which christened a nice golden coloured beer. The smell was that of any common beer out there. I did pick up corn so I felt it to resemble this blog "corny."The first taste was a tad skunky, and so was the second and third. Midway through the taste got better but there was really nothing that impressed me on this one. Nope, nothing at all.

Beer Friday. Yukon Brewing, Yukon Gold

The last Friday of the greatest month of the year. Oh how incredibly sad! On a happy note. The riding has seem to have returned almost back to full gear. Entering November and it can only get better and better as the forests get ready for Winter and the cool air and dense dead looking trees add a certain splendor to the magical trails.

Yukon brewing from Whitehorse, Yukon. One of the more desirable places to go for anyone who likes to do stuff in the outdoors in case you didn't know. The brewery opened it's doors in 1997 by a couple lads from Ontario who like to do things in the outdoors, under the name Chilkoot brewing. The idea to start a brewery came to them on a canoe trip. Yet another good reason to get a canoe! Business ideas! Another good reason. Canoe dancing. Yukon Gold is their flagship beer which features work from artist Lynn Blakie. A piece of work that captures the spirit of our Canadian north.

The pour gave us all a nice golden beer that would make Anheuser-Bush proud. Or would he just be a stuck up prick about the whole thing? The crisp white head hung around long enough for a Green Day song and soon vanished. The smell gave us some earthly hops but quite faint. Should we all be worried? Hell no. The taste was a warm welcome to the end of another week. Nothing too special that stood out. Just an all around good tasting beer. Faint hops that lead your weekly worries into an empty field full of unicorns and lollipops. Or was that the alcohol?

Beer Friday. New Belgium Hoptober

Finally a review from the "magical six" that was gifted to me back in mid August! With severe neck problems forcing me off my precious bikes I refused to review "bike related beer" as I wasn't riding. A bit nutty but it made sense.... to me that is. Now with normality returning with mid week rides returning and soon to be some longer weekend rides in these ever so glorious Fall days. Why not start with the beer that tastes like the season were in.

New Belgium in Fort Collins Colorado was founded in 1991 by a genius names Jeff Lebesch. The company is now well known in the United States particularly for their "Fat Tire Ale." Which is coming soon to this here fine beer reviewing website. Hoptober is one of their seasonal beers and ironically October from U2 just shuffled itself onto my Itunes while spelling Hoptober.... Is this the start of something great? No it's just irony dumbass, get back to the review. Hoptober is seasonal from August to October.

The pour gave us what we were expecting and we were ecstatic. Glorious gold beer beckoned from the glass and I trembled as I set up the camera to take the picture. The one fingered head hung on for a few minutes and soon deflated like my current lungs on some good climbs in my valley. The smell was citrus mixed with hops. My first sip was now quite a while ago and I seem to remember being taken back to last Fall when I was trying Fall beers. I then fainted. Once awake I tried it once more and was warmed with hops and fruit that had a dry aftertaste. It was something that sadly I wish I had more of...

Middle October Sans Beer Friday

How could this happen in the greatest month of the year?

An early ride planned and a late work night on Saturday spoiled this week.

Now that the riding is happening the magical six pack will start getting it's paces.

Or should I just wait till next year, ya maybe I'll wait, I've waited long enough...

I can't review such magical beer after such a rotten season could I?

Beer Friday. Alley Kat, Ein Prosit!

Welcome back to another rideless week. With the only thing remaining on here of any sort of merit being the beer reviews, I bring you Beer Friday* (*soon to be trademarked). At least a defunct neck doesn't keep me refrained from doing the reviews. On with it shall we...

Alley Kat is a proud Edmontonian and this is it's second glorious showing on here. The brewery on the southside has a store from where you can purchase merchandise and also get tours. They claim to be Alberta's fourth oldest brewery, and are Edmonton's longest running microbrewery. Hmmm, a lonebiker brewery tour someday? No! Ein Prosit is their take on Oktoberfest, the best festival in the world perhaps? October being the greatest month easily of the year for riding combined with beer and sausage, and of course German polka! What more could a guy want?

The pour showed itself in words one cannot describe other then remarkable. A beautiful Fall leaves golden coloured beer emanated from the bottle and sprang forth a one fingered head that took charge of the room, kicked me in the balls and called me Sally. Yes, one fingered head. It was small but ever so impressive! The aroma again made tears of joy run down my cheeks. Well not quite, I figured after building up the pour so much I should just keep going.... I know that may lead to severe disappointment in the end so....

The taste did not disappoint. Microbrewery beers are simply awesome. There is no better word to describe them. It has been a little while since I've had a microbrew so I don't want to jump the gun and bow down and worship this one so.... It does seem a little weak but at 6% I feel a little silly saying that. They hide it well, really well.

Beer Friday. Moosehead

With pride this beer boasts that it comes from Canada's oldest brewery. Really? Is that true now? I've had beer on here that loudly proclaimed how old they are. Some wouldn't shut up the whole ride home. This one in particular shoved it in my face the whole ride just about forcing me to crash my poor little Jeep into that crowd of schoolchildren! Thankfully we have wikipedia now days and it proved the point of this obnoxious big mouthed Jeep crashing into schoolchildren beer. It was right! 1867 was the year it was born. Not nearly as old as some of the great beers that have been on here, but it is a proud Canadian as it started the same year as this Tim Horton donut loving country. And hey! 1867? Really? We Canadians are really not that old compared to some countries. My real concern is, what the hell are groups of schoolchildren doing out at nine on a Friday night?

The pour showed a good golden beer colour.... The way it should be damn it! A good odour that went undetected all thanks to my giant nose picking up every allergic fiber outside (thanks for the big nose Dad!). The first taste took me straight to sweet memories of drinking Kokanee sitting around the campfire after a good day of riding. Cause that's what this stuff is for, it does not offend the precious inside of your mouth, you don't want to wash it down with cat urine (that's a bonus) due to an incredibly offensive aftertaste. It's good, not great. But good goes a long way especially if your sitting around the campfire chillin with a few brews. This stuff would be most welcoming. Go out and get some, and if your an employee with Moosehead I'm truly sorry about the below photo with the Beibs. I'm starting to have to search for things to take pictures of the beer with. I'll try to make it up to ya...

Beer Friday. Rainier

After getting shut out of blogger last Saturday night, a big night as the NFL kicked off in a big way the next day with thirteen games including my beloved Seahawks. A team that looks as bad as they could ever be. A team I will show my undying love for even though I will probably bet against them on every NFL pool and sports select ticket I buy throughout the season. Hey, I may be a fan but I'm not stoopid. With all that being said I bring you Rainier, something to help drown the sorrows for a long season.

1884. Yes 1884 the beer Gods gave birth to this brewery. A wise man named Edward Sweeney started up the Claussen-Sweeney brewing company in the Georgetown neighbourhood of Seattle. Yes Seattle. See what I did there? Genius! Although ironically Rainier isn't brewed in Seattle anymore. As of 1999 Pabst who owned it , closed it down and is now made under contract with in Irwindale California. The old brewery, a Seattle landmark is now home to Emerald city beer company. So the glory days of Rainier is now long behind them. I was surprised to find a six pack hiding in the deep hallows of a Beaumont Beer depot.

The pour showed a beautiful golden color that made me stand tall and proud thinking of this beer's glory days. The smell was somewhat like one of the big three but there stood something special about it. More hops I presume? Seriously! I have no idea. And I'm not afraid to admit that. It did have a little something-something to it though. The taste took me back to my very first head trip, hand in hand with Scarlett Johansson through a leafy forest, skipping listening to Enrique sing his classy love ballads.... Wait a tic. No it didn't, I'm just happy cause I could be riding soon. I liked the taste, it had all the virtues of a good beer, smooth, tasty, crisp, and clean.Try it!

I tried posting up a beer review and the site kept on crashing. I even had some sweet Seahawk stuff in with the pictures (which took literally minutes of work) As you may know, tomorrow the season kicks off.

Now that I'm on here it doesn't seem to be giving me grief. I am not going to try and re-write what I had, it is all erased and I'm a little bit miffed. So this will be rescheduled for next week.

Until then, a riding video sent to me on the interwebs. This is in Hinton, Alberta. A place I always pass when I'm driving to Jasper. This is part of the Moustache madness cross country race.... I did say cross country, watch the video and tell me how it looks "cross country"... Pretty great!

I gotta get better....

Beer Friday. Crabbies, Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer

I find the name of this beer the most appropriate to describe me thanks to this forgettable season of shit. Crabbies originates from Scotland, and was formed in 1801 by a guy by the name of John Crabbie, who made a ginger wine to help sailors ward off seasickness. Ginger beer isn't for everyone, as you may have figured out "ginger" is the main ingredient, thus if you ain't into the strange taste of ginger. Stay away.

The pour showed me something that resembled ginger ale, ladies and gentlemen I think we have a connection here. Ginger! Plus carbonation of course! The creation of this beer takes over two months, which impressed this here beer reviewer, although I'm impressed whenever an airplane flies over so....

I went into this one trying to be optimistic as the fear of ginger overwhelming me had me a little nervous. I tasted it and my fears came to heed. The ginger was overwhelming. I tried putting lemons in it but it didn't work. I tried watering it down.... Nothing.

To be fair I'm not going to rate this cause if you love the taste of ginger this just might your dream beer.

It's a Beer Friday Christmas miracle

Christmas can happen in August right? well it did for me. A dear friend just returned from the holy land. Not the holy land of Jasper, but Grand Junction, Colorado. And with him he brought four fine outdoor themed beers to test. Two of which are Mountain bike theme orientated. The famous New Belgium's Fat Tire Ale which I've partook of several times (thanks Seattle), and Boulder Beer's, appropriately named Singletrack. Once the bike themed ones are out of the way, New Belgium's, Blue Paddle and Hoptober will be given a fair shot.

For now. No reviews till September second. Events are happening that forbid me from reviewing beer. These four new blessings will be sitting and waiting for their "approval" (me thinks the bike ones will have the pleasure of a strong bias from the reviewer.) Yes. I'm going to milk this, other bought beers will be thrown into the mix prolonging the reviews. Really. I don't feel I should be reviewing bike beer when I'm not riding a bike...

Beer Friday. Tusker

A first for Beer Friday! A beer from Africa... Or so I believe one hasn't been on here. After that disaster of a review last weekend I'm super pumped on getting back to the beer, and to get one from Africa. Sweeeet! My special lonebiker beer fetcher boy scouts went out and did their homework today and got me a gooder.

Tusker, from East African Breweries in Nairobi, Kenya. A land that so many people want to visit but probably few have was formed in 1922, a rather late year compared to lot's of the brews that were formed in the early or late 1800's. Tusker is one of the breweries main beers and came to be after one of the founders was killed by an elephant in a hunting accident. A rather rough way to die in the outdoors I would think, but yet, most deaths in the outdoors would probably not be too pleasant. I mean really. When you think of it. Why do I have to be so dark sometimes?

The pour showed a lighter golden brew that showed little head which reminded me of my balding spots. The head dissolved quickly and I thought the beer was making fun of me, so after a lengthly discussion, me and the beer made up and I drank it. The taste was very much common of the Bud lights, and Coors lights of the world but a little bit more watered down. At 4.2% it is what you can expect. With the exotic factor coming on strong for this one. I was hoping for more.

Beer Friday....Whiskey Friday. Tangle Ridge

After a few days of suffering amidst searing neck pain this little nugget fell onto my lap at work. Me not being one to enjoy the fruits of the "hard liquor" fearing I may end up living in a tent in the river valley, and most notably, horrible memories of "that night" at the pub when I was 19, send shivers down my spine. The very smell of hard liquor make me wonder how people can drink it. "Sicko's" I always think. Today though, with bad neck pain bugging me for the last three days preventing me from riding and pretty much doing anything except work. I decided to take it home when the offer was there. Inevitably this may be the cure for this gay neck pain. I may wake up naked the next day on the neighbours lawn, but thats o.k. Thats not gay is it?

Tangle Ridge is a fine Canadian whiskey that hails from...... Wait a minute, I'm not going to spoil this already "great" review on some geographical knowledge of a Canadian whiskey that you all don't give a jack shit about (well maybe some of you do). Let's just get this over with shall we...

Someone once told me that Tangle Ridge is like candy, "whoa-man, thats really fucked up!" I would always think to myself while smiling as polite as I can. I guess thats the way I've always thought of hard liquor, what will this little gem tell me tonight? The smell made me want to throw up. Oh how sad and unmanly I am! I know... ouch. I did do the bold thing and drink it straight without any mix or chaser, cause I'm a real man. Once I got back from dry gagging in the bathroom I was ready to partake of this bad ass drink. I partook and almost threw up, but successfully swallowed it. A few more sips and I could handle it, and hey, I see where they can get that "candy" reference from. Sadly though, this Friday I do miss my beer...

Beer Friday. Cannery Brewing, Maple Stout

As fears of beer Friday not making a return this week were running rampant through the interwebs, I believe several Facebook pages were started calling for a return. So thus I lay my heart and soul on this one from beautiful Penticton, British Columbia. No. There were not any Facebook pages started calling for a return, I just wanted to feel special that's all. Can I start one? I can cancel this here review right now! Would you join? Come on....Would ya?

Anyway's. Enough of that shit. Cannery Brewing was started in the glorious year of 2000. The year of my first born, and one of those years the world was supposed to end (it gets frustrating, will they ever get it right? I want to know when to cash in on my pog collection). Like any small brewery, visitors are welcome for tours, and nothing completes a brewery tour like a trip to the gift shop. Sadly no hotel adorns this brewery but I'm sure if you sample enough during the tour you can pass out in one of the bathrooms.

Cannery brewing decided to get patriotic and introduce Maple Stout. Natural maple was introduced to this one to give it a more "Canadian feel." Just think of how Canadian you could be drinking one of these while watching some hockey, chopping down a tree, all while getting ready to head out for a night of curling. I have tears of pride running down my cheeks as I type this....

The pour showed us all a strong looking stout. Black, much like all the clouds rolling through this side of the world as of late. It stood strong, and menacing and showed off a very ravishing four fingered head that made me tremble a wee bit. The smell was of coffee and maple syrup mixed together. My brothers and sisters, it was truly magnificent! I was never more proud to be Canadian at that moment. The taste delivered what it was supposed to. It took me to an early morning pancake breakfast. An early morning pancake breakfast with beer that is. The taste was smooth and finely balanced. Truly a fine way to start a long weekend.

On yet another Saturday I bring you Beer Friday. What do I blame this on? Work? No. Riding? Yes, and that is a pretty damn good excuse!

From the "look at what I'm drinking" files comes Guinness. A beer that you most likely would look pretty kickass sipping from at a house party, or in a pub, or at the company staff barbecue hoping that that "girl in sales" will take notice. All the while she is more interested in that wanker drinking strawberry coolers cause he's different. Don`t worry! If I'm there, I'll notice you! What more could you want?

Guinness proudly makes it's home in Ireland. Home of the worlds biggest rock band U2, the cliffs of Moher, and countless pubs stowed away in the coolest little towns, yes, even cooler than Beaumont (I think I just heard my wife snicker.) Arthur Guinness started brewing in 1759 in Dublin. Long, long before the first Angry birds first flew across your little Ipod screens and took revenge on those bastard swines.

The genius behind Guinness would have to be the widget. Or as I like to think "the magical widget." What makes it magical is you can take it with you on bike rides if your into that sort of thing. I took one yesterday but only for photo purposes. The thought of drinking alone in the river valley just doesn't sit well with me. The widget, they say is what helps form the head when you open the can and pour it into a glass making it replicate having it poured from a tap. There is alot involved and it took Guinness several years to come up with the right widget to work. The rumour is the widget helps preserve your beer during all the bumping and jarring one would find having it stuffed in a camelback, thus you could ride to the top of a plateau, stop, open one up and not have it spray everywhere like you just won a Nascar race. Like I said I never opened it up yesterday so I can't say for myself if that myth holds any truth.

The pour delivered what it was supposed to. Absolute pure awesomeness! It`s worth buying this just for pouring it into a glass and watching the show. The colour is black with a brilliant white foamy head that makes the beer God`s get up and dance. Many people say that Guinness is an acquired taste but the two I am having tonight are serving o.k and I don`t know what's so special about it. What is surprising is how smooth it is. You would think by looking at it that it would punch you in the nuts. Instead it dances around your mouth and goes down your throat smooth like it was meant to, like water. There is the problem. Beer should not taste like water. My taste buds wanted so much more considering the show it put up during the pour...

Beer Friday. Zywiec

If you truly have been paying attention, you would notice that now, the last two Beer Fridays have taken place on a Saturday. I do not want you to be alarmed and completely freak out as I know that is what is inevitable as you sit there behind your computers wondering why your world is upside down. It`s just work, that is all to blame. I`m hoping to have this Beer Friday ship righted by next Friday as my little summer holiday should be in full swing by then. Should be.... Things are getting goofy already! What`s that? You in the brown shirt sitting behind the old Hansol monitor, you have something to say? "Can we just get on with the fucking beer review already and stop boring everybody with your life`s bullshit!?!" Well then, lets get on with it shall we...

Zyweic. A rather difficult name to work with as I keep having to check the bottle for the proper spelling. That dot above the Z. Good luck trying to figure that one out! This brewery formed in the mid 1800`s in Zyweic, then part of Austria. It is now a proud Polish beer that survived that grumpy bastards late thirties invasion and is now a financially strong European beer all thanks to being owned by Heineken.

I poured this in my trusty Hardcore bikes mug and proved to myself that I truly am a great beer pourer. A little head stayed for a bit and was gone by the time I got the right picture. The smell took me back to childhood memories of running through Canola fields on hot July summer days. No it didn't. You never bought that shit did you? It smelled like beer... good beer, and I was anxious to try some. How do I describe the taste? Fairly basic. It doesn't have that sour taste that you get with some of European beers, and it reminded me alot of Budweiser and all the other commoners around these parts. Pick it up for a barbecue if you want to look cool and different. It is European...

Beer Friday. Kokanee

Well the weather has finally turned around and it finally seems like summer! On Canada day weekend no less! What better beer to review than Kokanee. A proud western Canadian beer that has been annoying us with their commercials for some time now. Whoops, I just started this and I`m throwing off a negative vibe about this beer. I guess the commercials are great , they did feature hot chicks on mountain bikes at one point which made me go out and buy $300 worth of Kokanee paraphernalia. Kokanee started small and was bought out by Labatts in 1974, and with clever advertising, helped bring it up to the famous brand that it is now.... That is if you live in Western Canada.

Now ladies and gentlemen. I won`t lie. I have had my share of this beer in my time. Many times my late Father would come over with a six pack and we would talk about important things, like airplanes, football, cars (that was him), and how to get outside in the woods more. He truly had the right idea about things!

I could not review Kokanee without mentioning Krankworx. A large mountain bike event held in the holiest of holies, Whistler. Although most of it is freeriding which may not be my cup of tea as I am a true believer in riding downhill should be earned, not given....but some say I`m grumpy. I say go to hell! I`ve been riding close to twenty years and I ain't ever gotten no shuttle up some damn hill. Those darn kids with their full faced helmets and their overpriced heavy freeride bikes...Bah! Where`s my damn walker?

With all that being said. Krankworx is a pretty kickass event, and Kokanee gets some special love for putting it on.

On to the pour now, it poured golden yellow, after a smell I took a step back and saw how Kokanee showed its similarities to all the commoners out there. Which is how I always saw it when I took a trip to the store to pick something up. The taste takes me nowhere special, it won`t blow you away like so many of those micro beers will, but that`s not what it`s here for. It`s for weekends like Canada day! The Canadian Football league just started, why not pick up a few and watch a game will ya? The best part about beers like this is you always know you are going to get something that won`t ruin your evening. Unless you have too much of course.

Beer Friday. Howe Sound, Bailout Bitter

When searching for beer`s to review for this, sometimes there is that one that just stands out. I think I heard trumpets blaring and a shaft of light from Heaven when I saw this one!

Howe Sound from Squamish, British Columbia has got to have some of the best beer bottles in the world. The "pot stopper," re-closable bottle which was widely used in Europe in the fifties has made it`s come back with Howe Sound Brewing. One reason it is re-closable is cause it is so big. When you get one of these you are getting 1 liter of beer my good friends! Yes, that`s right. 1 liter. Perfect for a Friday night....or the whole weekend.

This fine brewery boasts a pub, and a hotel, and yes it is located in Squamish. Land of some seriously kickass riding. Just an hour north out of Vancouver, don`t let those hockey hooligan, city wrecking, douchenozzles discourage you from going. These are some of the finest areas in the world. $109 for a room in the high season, and you are staying in a brewery! How awesome is that?

The Bailout Bitter is quite costly. $10 for a bottle, but yet look at what you are getting. This ain`t no Bud super can, this stuff is high class. Appropriately named after the recession which we seem to hear so much about these days, what better way to deal with your problems! Drink from a one liter bottle of beer, when empty, refill it and drown your sorrows away with homemade moonshine!

The pour gave a marvelous head that showed itself for quite some time. A golden proud glass stared at me and I wondered if I was supposed to drink this , or salute it! I chose the latter. The first few sips took a little while, and I wondered what to write. It was a tad dry, a smidgen bitter, but after four sips it was something I was happy to have on a Friday night. After all, Friday night`s only come once a week. Get this if you want a great beer for barbecued burgers while out on a patio. Get this if your significant other will only allow you one beer in a night. Get this if you are a giant cheeseball, and you want to impress your friends with a different brew. Oh, just go out and get it already!

Beer Friday. Fullers Organic Honey Dew (round two)

I feared this may happen one day. A beer review repeat. I was not the one who picked up the beer for tonight's grand review and I assure you the person responsible will be dealt with harshly! So be that as I seemed to have been down with a sickness that prohibited me from enjoying the true taste of this beer in my earlier review, now I feel I can deliver a true beer review that may eventually make or break this fine English brewery`s fortune as I like to think I`m that powerful.

Isn`t it nice to see that I finally learned to put all my punctuations in the right place? We call that growing pains! What`s that? I was in my thirties when I wrote that and I should at least know a thing or two about basic writing skills? I think you should mind your own business and get bent, that`s what I think ! (see what I did there? I`m hilarious)

I`m not going to divulge too much into this brewery`s rich history as I did touch on that a little bit in the previous review. I`d rather just get into the tasting. I chose not to pour this as my runner who picked up this beer came back quite late, and I really don`t feel like doing this right now after a night chasing kids in a public pool! Again I am angered at the atrocities that transpired in this here beer review! The taste did help change my foul mood as this is quite satisfying. The honey is noticeable and adds to "the
orgasmic entities" that have enveloped my lucky mouth. Each sip got better and better. No bad aftertaste or just plain "bad taste"that ruins so many beers.

This was the perfect thing after an active night...

Beer Friday. Propeller Extra Special Bitter

From the largest microbrewery in Nova Scotia, home of the Bluenose, and the famed Alexander Keith`s brewing company (a lonebiker winner) comes Propeller Extra Special Bitter ale. Bitter brewed beers started in England and were made from malt dried with coke in the late 1600`s. In 1703 the term "pale ale" was introduced. The words "bitter" and "pale ale" mean pretty much the same thing as bitter beers belong in the pale ale crowd, at least thats what my computer tells me. I have had pale ales before and this is nothing like it so therefore I`m a little confused.

As far as the Propeller brewing company goes, they started in 1997 by a man by the name of John Allen. This brewery is only 14 years old! What`s up with that? I have kids older then that...wait a minute. No I don`t, but still these guys are pretty young in a market that seems saturated with old age. Should I just throw this one down the toilet? No? Keep going? Well o.k then...

The pour revealed a dark strong looking ale that seemed angrier than Samuel L Jackson when he was sick and tired of all those snakes on that plane. A smell that took me daydreaming to the country or the dried fruits section in the produce aisle, with fruits and a good presence of malt, I was no longer that scared of this beers angry looking presence. The first sip offered me what the label entailed. A tad bitter, or was it? Maybe the label played head games with me, after a few more sips it really grew on me and I was on the Propeller website trying to order T-shirts and thinking of getting it tattooed on my forehead (Oh, admit it! That would be so cool!). The taste was typical of any great craft brewer out there. Each sip, beer ecstasy...

Beer Friday. Hop Head, India Pale Ale

An extra special Thursday night edition of beer Friday coming at ya. What do I think I`m doing taking an extra day off on the eve of a long weekend you ask? Reviewing beer of course, and maybe a little bit of riding tomorrow while most of everybody else spends the day counting paper clips and tries to suck up to "the man".... Ooooh I hate that guy!

Tree brewing company has been on here before from lovely Kelowna, Briti... Did I review this one already? wait a few minutes as I check out if I did. Oh my God! I`m so embarrassed! While I check out the archives why don`t you listen to some fine music while I do some research...Oh thank heavens! I didn`t, lordy I would have looked silly! They have however been on three times and their track record isn`t exactly the greatest. Hop Head had better come through this time!

I poured and it was fine. Step one is now over. The smell took me into some sort of bad Mel Gibson directed movie about himself saving the world, only there were talking donkeys with half cut off unicorn horns that emitted a strange odour that everybody in the movie kept referring to. Yes, it`s strange how smells can do that sometimes. In short. I wasn`t happy with the smell, if you are a craft beer lover you may feel differently. Yes I am one, but my tastes are a little off I guess. The taste was a little meager at first but after a few sips it got better, after two beers I wasn`t too happy. We call that beer bipolarism.

Beer Friday. Red Stripe

Welcome to Beer Friday. The most exciting thing to hit the internet since that awesome garage sale deal site that swept the county of Ranchland in 2002. From perhaps one of the coolest island countries ever. Jamaica, we bring you Red Stripe. The first Red Stripe beer came flowing down glorious taps in 1928 in Surrey Jamaica. The beer has gained worldwide recognition and is now brewed in the United Kingdom, the United States and some other country named Canada.

The Lonebiker empire spared no expense and got real Red Stripe imported right from Jamaica (I know, cause it say`s on the bottle). In what looks like some sort of cough syrup medication for a bottle, some may be a bit reluctant to try it. I think it`s adventurous! With beer in bottles like this, your imagination can take you on some wild trips...but we won`t go there.

If you know a thing or two about Jamaica you would say they are relaxed. The commercial below is evidence of that. This is a country that knows a thing or two about taking it easy. Seeing how everyone here is rushed and stressed most of their lives, I envy them. Life shouldn`t be rushed. It`s short.

The beer was poured into one of my tiny Ikea glasses and it just about took the whole bottle. At only 330ml, I think I was right about the cough syrup for a bottle. These things are tiny. It poured a nice Golden straw colour and a short head dissipated in the time of a good Pixies song. The first sip was done by my lovely wife and was given a thumbs up. Sadly though, the beer had to be judged by me "the expert" and I saw that it was a little nervous (you can tell cause the bubbles wiggle as they go up). Well good news Red Stripe! Your good! Each sip did not dissapoint. It is a simple beer that doesn`t slap you in the face or make you ask yourself "what is this shite I`m drinking?"

It`s good. Hooray beer...

Beer Friday. Caffrey`s (special riding in Ft Saskatchewan edition)

When a friend entrusts you with his bike to get fixed up at the bike shop cause he (or she) is too busy to take it in themselves, what does one do? You fix it up yourself and ride it of course!

What better place to take a fine steed like a Pivot Mach 5 then Fort Saskatchewan, and combine that with a beer review, also combined with the first Ft Sask. outing of two eleven. Sisters, brothers. What a great way to end the week!

The beer though didn`t get reviewed on the trail, as I feel a little weird and uncomfortable drinking alone on the trails, when I could be doing it alone in my cold dark den downstairs in my house with thoughts of people who have wronged me in my life. Yes. That just feels much more normal.

As far as the bike goes, it feels eerily similar to my beloved Ibis Mojo. It tracks the same, descending is a confidence booster, and seems to climb a wee better then my beloved Mojo. The close ride comparisons come with good reason I guess. The linkage system that graces my Ibis is centered around this bike. Dave Wegal, the man behind the DW link helped design the Mach 5 around his linkage design inherently creating an amazing bike. The bike I rode tonight was a little too tall for me but this one is in my short list when I get a new frame to replace the Mojo. The only kicker is Pivot doesn`t offer a carbon frame yet (I now have a slight carbon addiction).

As I said, the Caffrey`s beer for this review got to go for a ride with me and I was truly impressed with the durability of the can. Trees and those badass Fort Saskatchewan branches attacked the can left and right and it held up like Chuck Norris in a room full of ninjas.

This beer was brought to this earth in the late seventeen hundreds in one of the coolest countries in the world. Ireland...that`s right bubba! It is now brewed in Antrim, home of castles, Giant`s causeway, and many, many great pubs.

The pour was one of the most marvelous spectacles I have ever seen doing a beer review. A large foamy head that shot beer bubbles downward in an amazing spectacle. It was like beer fireworks. It was truly grand. Sadly the taste was simply disappointing. Watered down is the best way to describe it. I was truly upset after watching the grandeur of the pour with tears in my eyes. How could this be? This beer should kick some serious Heiny (get it? Heineken....Ha!), but it doesn`t. Not even close. At least I`m alone in my den now. Drinking and thinking of the ones I`m upset with, cause that`s healthy, real healthy.

This beer gets 1.5 sud out of 5. It`s almost worth getting for the pour.

Beer Friday. Labatt Blue

Labatt brewing company. Originated and now headquartered in Beautiful London, Ontario in 1847. Labatt brewing has been going for over 160 years, what`s that "longevity" you say? With being that old you would think that quality would play a big role in this huge brewer. They had prohibition to fight with in 1915 (yes, Canada had it too) and had to sell 2% alcohol in Ontario to help stay afloat. The best contribution from Labatt came the twist off cap...There I said it. It happened and it was beautiful (for all the drunks who wet themselves, and could not find bottle openers)

Oh how proud they must be to have a pilsner in their line up named after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It`s touching tidbits like that about our Canadian history that bring tears to my eyes and goose bumps the size of marbles. I have had Blue before without complaints, therefore I am not too worried about the taste, as I`m sure the thirty four Labatt executives are who are nervously sitting in their office as I write up this review. I did not pour this as it is a bottle, the aroma from the bottle gave me a sense of malts, and hops which brought to the conclusion (are you ready?) Beer!!!! Oh, here I go with the exclamation points again! The taste is great. None of that dead cat in mouth aftertaste, this is perfect after a long day on the bike, or sadly after a long day at work, or maybe during work.

Beer Friday. Pabst Blue Ribbon

A fan favourite of trendy beer drinking dorks all over the land. Pabst which started in 1844 by Jacob Best, and then a short 5 years later it was named after some lucky dude by the name of Fredrick Pabst. Pabst makes it`s home in Woodbridge Illinois, just a short drive from Chicago (you may have heard of that place).

What makes this beer so trendy? The price is a huge draw. 7.50 for a six pack. Pabst is known as a cheap beer, and cheap beer and College/High school students go hand in hand like a nice carbon hardtail and miles upon miles of smooth flowy singletrack. Sadly though, hipster duffuse`s cling to Pabst like one would cling to a life raft when out in open sea. This beer`s name came in 1893 when it supposedly won "America`s best" at the World`s Columbian expo, ironically there was lots of controversy as some say it never won, and to this day remains a mystery. So how do you like that ya hipsters? You may be drinking a scam!

The pour, or lack thereof. I feel one cannot enjoy a Pabst out of the can unless he or she is letting everyone know what they are drinking. To play it safe I drank mine out of the can just in case my wife walked in and saw me, so she could say "oh, he`s drinking PBR. That hunk!". You know it happens. The taste is really quite good, each sip just seemed to get better and better. I then thought about some of the great beers I had on these reviews and the tires came screeching to a halt. Oh, yes! 7.50 a six pack! How could I forget. There`s value in this stuff, and if some special lady or some cool dudes (for the ladies) see you enjoying a Pabst. Who know`s where those roads will take you.

Beer Friday. Holsten Festbock (a special Thursday edition)

Hamburg. A city better known for it`s awesomeness, was recently ranked 23rd in the world for liveability, and number 1 in my local beer depot for green canned German imports. The city is home to Holsten beer and that should make that great German city even more proud. Like most breweries it was founded back before space ships, cars, boats, and flying donkeys (that we so heavily rely on today). Yes folks, we were all a mere glimmer in our great Grandfathers eye when this brewery was formed. The year was 1879 in the United Kingdom. It eventually made it`s way across the pond where it was bombed into utter submission by it`s former U.K masters, rebuilt, and now makes quality brews.

On to the pour. My fears of strong beer have been evident on this site, and this is a strong one. My history of trying European beers have been a little off as well. They always left me with a bitter taste in my mouth, and this beer being high in alcohol content left me shivering in the corner of my room afraid to come out cause I know the Holsten may kick my ass. The beer poured dark and angry, I had to take it outside to let it calm down. The first taste was a relief. I checked my vitals and seemed to be all right. In fact, the taste was quite stupendous for being a high alcohol European beer. After a few more though, you could tell it was a high alcohol beer. The taste of licorice seemed to come up for some reason. In the end. Not too shabby.

From our neighbours to the south. Calgary, comes Big Rock brewing company. Wait a minute! did I just say Calgary? Ugh, I just get so angry when I think of those cowboys dancing around with their cutsie little cowboy hats, and their shiny belt buckles. Whats that? Only one Stanley cup? Brothers and sisters that's not even scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to hockey supremacy! Lets count how many Gretzky and the boys have racked up over the years. Why the mighty Oilers rule at every statistic vs the Flames in the National Hockey League! I`ll just open another page and look right now. Oh dear, whats this...Wow! We suck! Last place....Really? Ummm, I think I`ll just stick to the beer now.

Anyways, sorry about that. Sometimes I go on strange journeys. Yes Calgary is the home of Big Rock. It is also home to some killer riding with K-country and various other hotspots being a stones throw away from this great city. Now before I go on another tangent and start shoving my nose up Calgary`s ass just cause it has great riding, I will try to stick to the task at hand. 1984 was the year Big Rock was formed by a man named Ed Mcnally. A strike at Molson`s and Labatts dramatically helped Big Rock in 1986 and is now a big proud Alberta beer.

Grasshopper was made in 1994 when Ed was driving through our province and decided to make a wheat ale. Why not? Alberta has some of the best wheat in the world. I opened a bottle, sniffed, then poured it into my trusty mug. What did I find? A very nice looking ale, the colour of Albertan wheat was dominant in this ale, yes I had tears of pride running down my cheeks. The taste was good. There were no dominant flavours that stood out in this one. What else can I say? This is a good easy drinking beer that I would probably not write home to tell my wife about, but she say`s I`m bad at communicating.....

Beer Friday. Molson M

Greetings earthlings. Today`s review comes from my great home country of Canada. Molsons, a proud Canadian brewery that is now ironically owned by Americans. In a weird Canadian way. It just makes sense. Molson is the second oldest company in Canada behind the Hudson`s Bay Company (who are probably owned by Americans as well).

Molson M is the only beer in the world that is microrocarbonated. What is microcarbonation you ask? How the hell would I know? What am I some sort of beer genius? It is the injection of smaller co2 bubbles to preserve not only the taste of the hops but also the delicate flavours of the fermentation process. Whats that? Did I "google" that? I truly am insulted now! Why would you people think I would do something trivial like that? Seriously....

As you can expect, this beer is expensive. This reviewer spares no expense when it comes to bringing the public what it wants. So he splurged and got the "good stuff". The pour showed little head, as you can see with Buzz in the above picture as I took that photo right after the pour, or maybe it`s just that I am now a great beer pourer guy. After so many reviews one can sure get the handle on a great pour now can he? The first taste sure did not disappoint, and neither did the last. This stuff is good...Damn good! Microcarbonation. You are my new favourite word! Where have you been all my life? My mouth is on some sort of erotic Charlie Sheen, pornstar, stripper fantasy that won`t let up.

Molson`s. You did a great job with this one...

Beer Friday. Brewsters. Farmer`s Tan White Ale

It`s time to blow off the dust on the Beer Review page and review a beer already. A trip to Brewsters this week with my lovely wife for a lunch date and I am hooked. That place was great. I didn`t order any beer for lunch but saw they had a large selection of off sales beer that they brew and I knew this would be great for starting the beer reviews again. A total of 15 different beers are available including a seasonal beer.

Farmers tan was my weapon of choice today "an easy drinking Belgian white ale". The smell was different. I was getting a citrus feel out of this one. The pour left me with a two fingered head that wanted to stick to the sides of the glass once it evaporated, but then again. Doesn`t all beer do that ? It`s been a while since I`ve done this and I have not missed a beat on the complete and total amateurism that these beer reviews are filled with (oh, I am so humiliated). I am now waiting for my wife or one of my kids to come into my room and tell me it will be all right. Or a dog.... Somebody ....Hello!!

It`s been three hours and I am still waiting. I`ll just keep doing this review with the faint hope that somebody will come console me, didn`t they hear me weeping ? I finished the beer, and I have got to tell you its o.k. O.k you ask ? Yes, a bit better than o.k. My tears falling in the glass may have compromised the review so lets just forget about it and come back next week k ?

My, what a perplexing question ? Beer Friday is one of my favourite things on this here blog to do, and best of all it gives me an excuse to drink beer. It does seem to get good feedback and the stats are slowly picking up on the archive page.

However this has been a pretty shitty week. Last Tuesday our good friend cancer (ya, fuck him) has tried to make an appearance in my family again. Most notably affecting my wife Sheri. It feel`s strange just saying that! The odd thing is what she was told was in her and still possibly could be is melanoma, the exact same cancer that took my Father just two years ago....melanoma again? Life has a pretty good way of fucking with you now doesn`t it ? Of all the cancers, why? Not that I`m saying another one would be better, it`s just seeing first hand on what a serious case of melanoma did to my Dad, and thinking your wife may go through the same thing scares the living shit out of me, and for good reason.

This wasn`t meant to be bleak. The news we have been getting has been very good, and I stressVERY good. Unlike my Dad who was told he was pretty much done with from the onset. My wife had been checked over with ultrasound`s and x-rays and been told she is good. The last of the process will be when she goes in to get another chunk of her leg cut out where they got the offending mole that started this. They will test that and clear her from there. I honestly would be very surprised if there is anything. The news that we have been getting form the Doctor who cut out the infected mole has been nothing but good. In fact he seem`s a little bit bewildered as to why we are so upset about all this. This is just a scare for most people who have moles that came up positive for melanoma. I guess for my wife and myself the word "melanoma" sends shivers down the spine. And for good reason.

As for the beer reviews, once this storm passes they should be back and the "stellarness" will continue. For now we are just taking it easy. My "bridge ride" on Wednesday only lasted 27 minutes on the gps. I drove to Fort Edmonton rode to the bridge took some pictures, rode around the area of the bridge and then took off home, back to my wife. She is pretty much the best mountain bike wife you could have as she has been telling me to go riding as she knows it helps "soothe the soul" if you will. It sure helped this morning...

Beer Friday . Olympia

It says Beer Friday , but I am writing this on a Monday.... Do not be alarmed ! This is the end of my work week thus.....

For posting purposes only. This will be posted on the "lonebiker"site on the actual Friday of this week (hopefully not to mess with peoples mojo). For now and in the coming weeks I will post up in the beer archives like I am now, and then on the main site on the Friday or Saturday. Judging from the traffic comparisons not too many will see this till Friday .

Blah Blah Blah ....On to the beer now . Olympia beer was founded in 1896 by a German immigrant in Washington state , Tumwater to be exact . Good old prohibition closed it`s doors in 1916 and the brewery gloriously reopened in 1934 . The best thing that sets this one apart from the rest is the Artesian spring stream in Tumwater where the water is claimed to be the best for brewing beer . Thus on the side of the can the "it`s the water" slogan proudly stands . I got goosebumps just typing that .

I poured one into my new trusty Hardcore bikes beer stein and paid no attention to the head and what it did ..... I mean who cares really . The color . Absoloute beer awesomeness ! A perfect golden beer color greeted me with a perfect golden beer color look . Only a real schmuck of a beer reviewer would be impressed with the marvelous color of this Washington state brew and that`s what I am ! Maybe it`s the reflection of the candles, or the Enya playing through my computer but that color got me . The taste was real good (are you surprised ? think of the color ) It was like Bud or Molson but with ten times the flavor. The water in Tumwater must be truly magical indeed, and I bet the color of the water is magical too ....

Beer Friday....ummmm Saturday . Kingfisher

We at the lonebiker sincerely apologize for the lack of posting going on here these days . Work , in all it`s glorious entity has gotten quite busy and I have been quite overwhelmed with stuff to do . I am having to double the size of my shop "personnel wise" and figure out all sorts of fun problems that come up when you have to double production . That being said you may notice the odd posting on here as shift work is now starting for myself this next week . How will beer Friday be handled ? I have no idea ? I think I will do the review in underground top secret mountain tunnels high in the Andes , have it stored there guarded by Mexicans armed with razorblades and military issued unicorns . I will then post it up on the Friday of the week it was reviewed .

The beer being reviewed tonight (I didn`t do it last night cause I was too damn lazy) comes from the great land of India .Their website has all the usual beer company bullshit that you would find , except on theirs you could do an actual photo shoot with bikini models , edit it and make it into a calender ! Eat your heart out Bud light ! the link to the calender shoot is right here .

Kingfisher is India`s biggest selling beer and as I am halfway through mine . I say no shit sherlock ! This stuff is good . I didn`t pour it and had it straight from the bottle and have been pleasantly enjoying it . there is nothing too fancy about it as it really is just an average beer ....But yet there is something special about it compared to the Budweisers , and Molson Canadians that are out there .

Beer Friday . Muskoka Cream Ale

From one of the cities worst selectable beer coolers in cold , snowy, and blizzardy Millwoods (as of tonight) we bring you Muskoka from .....Wait a minute ....their site is taking forever to load . Come on guys , do you want to sell beer or not ? Oh here we go ! It says on the side of the can . Bracebridge , Ontario . Home of I have no idea , this is the first time I heard of that place . Give me a break , Ontario is pretty big o.k . According to the internet emporium aka "google" (the map division) This brewery is in a cute little town next to lake Muskoka , hence the name of the beer . The brewery and town are located a few hours north out of Toronto .

The brewers founders Gary McMullen and Kirk Evans bring you their Cream ale . Claimed by the website (it`s working now) as their signature beer . The pour got to show off it`s caramel orange colour, and showed not much of a head that quickly dissipated . The smell was that of a golden coloured Autumn forest in the morning when the dew was in all it`s glorious morning extravagance . Actually no . It just smelled like beer . I did get a sense of caramel though which is probably why I said it had a caramel colour . Strange...

First sip wasn`t a winner , and then I had a few more and couldn`t quite put my finger on it . A slight bitter aftertaste came after . The butterscotch malt was the only thing saving it as it did have a sour taste to it . This beer would be great sitting around a lake in Ontario cottage country swapping stories on the plight of the Maple Leafs . For that reason I know I will never have one of these again , and I guess I`m o.k with that .

Beer Friday . Lagunitas Maximus Ale

Welcome to a New Years eve edition of beer Friday . I am home tonight as our babysitter cancelled out on us because they apparently had better plans then we did . Ya , you know who you are . I hope you are reading this with the sweat of shame dripping down your neck . Trying to find a reserve sitter on New Years eve is like the proverbial needle in the haystack . To be honest a New Years night at home movie watching with the girls beats pretty much any other New Years eve plan so it worked out pretty good , and besides , having to go out and sign all those "lonebiker" autographs can get very tiresome after a while ...It`s tough being me .

Lagunitas brewing was founded in 1993 in Lagunitas, California , ironically close to San Francisco , the home of the last beer review . More importantly it`s located in Marin County . The supposed "birthplace" of mountain biking . Maximus ale is brewed for the Summer time according to their website ...ooops , this is the middle of winter so this beer review is now cancelled .

Do you want me to keep going ? Fine . Maximus was promptly name Maximus as it packs a punch . A 7.5 % punch that is (again , something I didn`t realize when I bought it) . So be careful with this stuff . It can bite you if your not careful . I didn`t pour this one and went straight from the bottle only because it`s New Years and I read somewhere that is what your supposed to do . Opening up a bottle and smelling it was a bit scary as the smell wanted to slap you in the face . It was somewhat hard to discern the smell as my nose is still plugged and I am a bad beer reviewer (only a real man can admit that). The taste filled me up with citrus and hops , what was cool was you could not taste the alcohol , and with a strong beer like this one the folks at Lagunitas brewing did a good job of hiding it . But after two I was wanting something else .

Beer Friday . Alley Kat , Pumpkin pie spice ale

On a special "Christmas edition" we bring you a special seasonal brew from just down the road . Edmonton , home of Alley Kat brewing , great mountain biking , countless number of Edmontonians , the five time winning Stanley Cup Champions , the Oilers (that`s four more then the Flames , but who`s counting ?), and most importantly , land of all those fantastic lonebiker bike rides .

The seasonal beer we are reviewing is for the Fall ...Hence , the pumpkin pie . Once again I looked for a Christmas beer and came up empty . A thorough search through a couple liquor stores and this was the closest beer I could find that resembled "holiday season" . So please don`t write me angry letters filled with angry F-bombs telling me what I`m doing wrong . And you know what ? It isn`t polite to type bad words like that , especially on Christmas , you should be ashamed .

This is the first beer that got reviewed on lonebiker that is from our fair city , and after fourteen months of beer reviews I feel ashamed .... I`m sorry Edmonton . I let you down ! I hope you have it in your heart to forgive me . Alley Kat started in 1994 and is the fourth oldest brewery in the city of Edmonton . I could not find anything on the Pumpkin pie spiced ale that I am trying tonight as time has passed on and it is now Winter , not Fall .

The pour brought on an orange golden color with a small head that dissolved fast . The smell was an event as it invaded my nostrils with a talanted classical musical symphony full of Autumn aroma ....And I`m stuffed up and sick . I couldn`t imagine being free and healthy and smelling this ! It smells like Fall ! How awesome is that ? The taste was great considering I had serious doubts on this one . Pumpkin is clearly evident but not overwhelming with a small hint of hops to compliment this seasonal brew . If you are lucky to find this now . Try it ! You may not want to have more then two in one sitting though .

Beer Friday . Kelowna Pilsner

First , I sadly must come out and say that the Christmas beer reviews have stopped quicker than Mel Gibson`s career . After an exhaustive search through some Edmonton liquor merchants I came up with nothing . So I give you Kelowna Pilsner from a now lonebiker three peat . The Tree brewing company company located in Kelowna, British Columbia, land of "life is really , really good and the riding is just fine " . Oh! Now I know why I`m drawn to them !

Kelowna Pilsner poured bold , proud , and gold . Much like that would be something from the great city of Kelowna . A two fingered head that dissipated quite quickly . It had the smell of some European beers that I have tried , nice and malty . I didn`t do any backflips while drinking this one . The first taste was a tad meager in the taste department , but it does get better as the glass gets emptier . This one does remind me of some of the European beers that I`ve tried .

Beer Friday . Anchor Brewing , Christmas Ale

This is the time of year that all the smaller breweries put out their Christmas beer . Me being the great beer reviewer that I am , I will try to review three by the big day , and let me tell you that is a feat that may prove hard when shopping just in Beaumont , but I will give every ounce of energy to get two more after tonight .

San Francisco is the home of Anchor beer , the World Series winning Giants and more importantly the five time winning Super Bowl Champions , the 49ers . Anchor was started in 1896 but the brewery burned down along with most of the city in 1906 following one badass earthquake . They reopened in 1907 in a different location had some quality control issues in the fifties and are now strongly running today . Could it be cause Skye vodka bought them out ? Their take on Christmas Ales started in 1975 and like all good breweries , did something cool to keep the tradition going each year . Their take was changing the recipe and the label on the bottle each year, Very cool !

The pour was dark , tall , and handsome . Much unlike the current me . The two fingered head stayed on for over five minutes telling me it`s got personality that likes to be heard . The smell was a tad off for me as I have been fighting a cold all week (and just about damn near cancelled this beer review !) but for some reason I thought I had an old pair of summer bike socks stinking up the den , and realized it was the beer . Mmmmm, beer that smells like foot stink ......Yummy ! Smelling my second one now out of the bottle and I`m not getting the bad odour , so lets not worry about the foot odour problem shall we ? The taste is what you would expect from a beer like this . It is full of Christmas flavor , cinnamnon , nutmeg , and roasted malts are there to make you sit back in your easy chair and nervously wonder how that sweaty fat bastard gets into your home each year and probably goes through your wife's underwear drawer while you sleep .

Beer Friday . Unibroue . Noire De Chambly

All right , if you guessed that this beer was French , back slowly away from your computer , television , mobile phone , or ipad and give yourself a well deserved slow clap . Give it two to three minutes of well motivated slow clapping and then stop . You can now finish this review Mr/Mrs Smarty Pants . Unibroue is brewed deep in the heart of Quebec in the town of Chambly , home of the historic Chambly canal . Unibroue was created in 1990 when two chaps started a brewery to tap into the craft beer market . Craft beer generally is beer that does not suck . It is beer that has had lots of arduous hours spent perfecting , so you better enjoy it punks , or somebody`s gonna have a fit !

Noire De Chambly was created in honour of the brave men of the who wore Musketeer hats and fought against the Iroquois helping defend the colony . Many French Canadians are direct descendants from the men of Carignan-Salieres Regimen and the people they help protect . If you want to know more just freakin google it o.k !

The pour was an event as a massive head was formed that took longer then normal to dissolve . Yes it was a bottle and I poured it going against the beer review standard of drinking straight from the bottle . Once the head finally dissolved I took a big sniff and got a whiff of chocolate , coffee , and strawberry pez (just kidding on that last one) . The taste took me back to one of the last good craft beer reviews I did on here . Why do people drink garbage beer I ask ? Cause this good stuff is expensive ......Ah , yes . good answer ! A good malty , wooden taste to this stout . I strongly recommend trying it .

Beer Friday . Pilsner

Honouring the 306 in this weeks edition as their football team will go to Calgary and play the Godless Stampeders for a trip to the Grey Cup . This stuff is drank like water in the great province of Saskatchewan . Many , many young men and women lost their alcohol virginity to this stuff and still love it . Now did I mention the Roughriders yet ! Yes I did . Pilsner beer and Saskatchewan Roughrider fans go together like my Ibis Mojo and a good rock/root garden (all you carbon naysayers beat it !). The irony is Pilsner was started in Lethbridge Alberta , which is close to Calgary ........home of the Stampeders . The name on the bottle up until 1926 was "Alberta Pride" which would make a true Saskatchewan homie rage with anger . Irony . I love it ! The company is now owned by Molson and is brewed in Vancouver and Edmonton . Pilsner is a big sponsor of the Roughrider football team so yes I understand the love .

The cans were bought locally and if you live pretty much anywhere in western Canada this would be pretty easy to get . I poured it into my trusty Seahawk mug and waited a full four minutes for the three fingered head to dissolve . (actually , no I didn`t time it , it did take a full song though) This stuff does dissolve slo.......Oh wait ! Big time WTF moment going on right here . My Girl dog is trying to hump my boy dog . If my wife sees this I don`t know what may happen .......That is one very confused dog . I yelled "MARLEY , YOUR A GIRL" to no avail . Anyways , sorry . I hate interruptions , stupid gender confused dogs may have ruined this beer review .

To finish it off the taste is o.k . I had this before and it never got me too excited . In fact comparing this beer to all the greats I had on here doing these beer reviews I`d say it pretty much sucks . The taste is nothing , it tastes like beer but watered down . There is nothing in this that jumps out at you like any good beer would do . The only good thing this would be for is getting sloshed at a Roughrider game .....I think I`ll pass on that one .

Coffee Saturday Fazenda Vista .......oh to hell with it . Second Cup !

Another kick at the coffee review cat . After receiving some very very angry letters from the last coffee review attempt on here I thought I would try it again . Seeing as how I can`t even spell out the name in the title , something is telling me that this one may suck even harder then the last coffee review attempt .

Fazenda Vista Alegre hails from Brazil , they let these beans mature on the branches instead of being picked at ripeness like most coffees . That is what gives it an assertive taste (so they claim) You can pick up this coffee at any second cup , or why not go there and have one yourself ! Take along a laptop while your at it , you will most certainly look cool ! I would be doing that right now but I am lacking a lap top . And coolness .

The taste of this coffee is good . Not as good as other second cup coffees that I`ve tried (mmmm Paridiso) This is a full bodied coffee that can easily be enjoyed on a Saturday morning , but what can not be enjoyed on a Saturday morning ? The flavor is somewhat smoky and reminds me of morning campfires in the mountains .

Duvel , from Belgium was born in 1871 , the year Orville Wright was born . Ya just can`t top a good year like that now can you ? Orville and his brother Wilbur used to own a bicycle company and did some other things ..........I can`t quite remember now , maybe it will come to me later . Back on track here Duvel is in Breendonk (careful how you spell that) , Belgium . The beer I am reviewing tonight is their flagship beer which is also a complete badass mofo of a beer . Why ? 8.5 % , that`s why . You see people this is what you call a "man beer" . All you little "girly boys" drinking your Coors light , or Bud light lime can go back to your Barbie houses . To the women who drink Duvel , I have one word .......Respect .

I was a little scared to try this ..........OH SHUT UP !!! but sucked it up and opened the bottle anyways . The smell was not too scary . I was expecting that bitter smell that you get with alot of European beers but it was a nice pleasant Malt , and that made me happy . The taste was not what expected as well . It was alot better then I expected . For a beer with a high alcohol content it did not taste like a mix of rat seman and snake urine like so many of those beers taste like . I was happy with this one , really happy (yes I only had one). Try some , but be careful . This stuff can probably bite you .

Beer Friday . Pumphouse Scotch Ale

In 1999 Shaun Fraser and his lovely wife Lilia opened up a brewpub in Moncton , New Brunswick and within a few years they had to expand because business was quite simply put ........"Stellar" . They won brewery of the year and numerous other awards since theit inception in 99 , and to think the world was supposed to end that year . Talk is in the works of franchising and the fine New Brunswick couple have plans for world domination by the year 2012 , ya know the other year the world is supposed to end (those jerk off mayans).

The beer of choice from Pumphouse was "Scotch ale" . A regular in their lineup , and you can luckily buy it in certain outlets in Alberta . Again . Bottled beer so I didn`t pour , the smell had a strong malty flavour to it that made me think this beer might not be too bad .......The first taste was real good , and so were the rest . It has caramel and some sort of smoky wood flavour mixed with hops that makes the taste buds lie back and dream of magical space unicorns in graceful flight on their way home to planet Nexis for horn recoloring ..........Yes , it is that good . Go out and buy some right now .

All right , I am not going to subject myself to even trying to type the name of the brewery that Dos Equis started . So thank God for copy and paste >Cuauhtémoc-Moctezuma Brewery (spanish: Cervecería Cuauhtémoc-Moctezuma)...........Did you get that ? They are from Monterrey , Mexico . Land of many many many Mexicans , and bad music . The brewery was founded in 1890 by Cornelius J Poindexter ( I may have made that name up , but you will never know ) Today the brewery is run by the evil empire known as Heineken .

For most of us Dos Equis is better known for their commercials which features an older perverted looking man doing better things in life then you and I . Bet you he doesn`t ride a bike though ....What a chump !

As far as the review goes , you may have noticed this isn`t true "Dos Equis" , and there is an Amber label affixed to the bottle . This is Dos Equis junior . Dos Equis senior (aka the lager) comes in a green bottle and is the more popular brew . Being the little brother growing up I somehow can relate . I didn`t pour this as I have mentioned before I like drinking beer from the bottle . The first taste went well and I was immediately hooked .....God Damn this beer is good ! Then I had more sips ......then more and it became more and more average . It was still good but the original good first taste which should keep you going was nothing but a distant memory .

Ahh , October ! Truly the second best month of the year . The weather is for the most part great , the riding is the best of the year , bar none . You cannot top Fall riding . I think most would agree with me on that one . Last and not least , Oktoberfest takes place . By now in Munich Oktoberfest is over , but in wonderful Beaumont it is taking place in a hall strangely overrun by old people ........who knew ! To celebrate we are reviewing Germany`s Becks beer for this special occasion .

From Bremen Germany we bring you becks . A brewery started in the late 1800`s . A popular beer that is easy to find in most stores in Canada . Becks had a good advantage being in a river port city making it easy to go worldwide and become a beer powerhouse (take note young entrepreneurs) Tonight is the first for me to try Becks making me quite excited . So excited I even decided to blog about it !

The pour gave me a nice two fingered head that dissolved slowly enough to add the pictures on this high class mountain biking site . Strangely enough I smelled something that I smell in the river valley all the time .......Pot ! Weird , where the hell is that coming from I asked myself ? The beer .......Noooo ! I took a close sniff and yep , that`s what it was . A quick google search and my suspicions were correct . Lot`s of people are saying the same thing . Just what the hell are they doing to this beer ? The first taste was a little skunky (just like the smell) but after a few more sips I started to enjoy it some more . Good but not great , a definite step up from some that I tried .

Yes , this is a day early as I am starting this Thanksgiving long weekend a little early . Why ? you ask . Cause dang ! This weather kicks ass !

Cracked Canoe comes from Moosehead Breweries , Canada`s oldest breweries formed in 1867 sometime before the birth of the ipod . Located in Saint John , New Brunswick it was started by the Oland family and still is owned by the Oland family six generations later . The brewery is the last big brewery that is 100 % Canadian. Take that Molson Canadian ya bunch of posers !

Cracked Canoe is one of the beers in their long line of great Canadian beer . The key ingredient according to Moosehead , "patience" . This reviewers nostrils are still plugged up from that bitch "the allergy fairy" so no aroma testing ensued tonight . This reviewer didn`t pour it into a glass either as he is a lazy little shit . I tell you what though , the first taste .......mmmmm , o.k I guess . It is light beer so you can`t expect much from it . It`s not bad but I certainly wouldn`t knock old ladies over at the liquor store to buy some .

First let me start out by saying thank you Northlands , thank you for whatever it is you do to your beer . For years now the beer at Rexall place , home of our beloved Oilers , the sight of many great concerts , rodeos , circuses (clowns suck !) , and now professional lacrosse , has given many "mainly Oiler fans" a "special buzz" .

Maybe it`s something in the pipes , or maybe it`s laced with crack cocaine . Whatever it is after two or three of these you will feel an extra warm glow , an extra warm glow you won`t find anywhere else . I found that out at a red hot chili peppers concert quite some time back . For those who don`t live here , and a few that do , this beer is well known for it`s "special" ingredient ..........whatever that is ? Hopefully whatever it is , they will keep the same ingredients when they move into a new arena . Could it be something in the Northland`s ground that gives this stuff it`s kick ? Guess we`ll know soon won`t we ? Me , I sure hope not .

From Kelowna British Columbia there is a brewery by the name of Tree Brewing (how appropriate) that has been there since 1996 . Finally ! A brewery that isn`t over 120 years old ! This isn`t the first Tree Brewing beer that I have reviewed , back in the springtime Thirsty Beaver was reviewed link here and I didn`t give it a very good review . That is why Cutthroat has been sitting in a corner of my desk looking nervous as it doesn`t want to let the brewery down as well . Well Cuthroat . Let`s see how you faired shall we ........

I poured this one into my trusty Seahawk mug quite some time ago and it poured a darker gold with a two fingered head that took forever to dissolve . Definitely a nice thing to see after a hard three day work week ! The first sips wern`t very impressive but it started to grow on me . The taste of malt was there and the beer made me wish I was just finished mowing my lawn sitting in my backyard as my wife feeds me grilled shrimp shish kabobs and whispers sweet nothings into my ear as she polishes my bikes ....(*this one made me dream a little, could be the meds kickin in)

Oh how fitting that we review Budweiser on the first Sunday of the NFL . The NFL and Bud have been in bed together for a long time, and just thinking of the amount of Bud that has been puked up in NFL stadiums and pubs across the land today and tonight (there`s a game on right now) sends shivers down my spine . Yes Budweiser , you truly are the king ! The self proclaimed king of beers brewed by Anheuser busch was founded in 1876 by Adolphus Busch (no relation to George W) and have breweries located across North America with headquarters being in St Louis .

I`m not pouring one as this is the beer of choice for myself for quite some time , and it`s safe to tell you what it`s really like . Plain and ordinary , yes , that`s what it is like . After reviewing so many great different beers on here I wonder why I stick to Bud . I guess the same reason so many other people drink it . Were attracted to bright and shiny objects . Oh yes , the price of all the "fancy beers" would put a serious dent in my wallet compared to Budweiser. In the end , the one I am having is going down good and smooth so I guess it`s not all that bad .

Bonjour , avec la rouge ole Bier Friday . Je ne se pel avo le.......... I don`t know what the hell I`m talking about ! Welcome to Beer Friday . The Stupid Edition ! Kronenbourg is brewed in Strasbourg France , and like all french stuff it`s thankfully far , far , far away ! HA HA HA HA HA ......Oh , I kill me , I really do ! Now that I just remembered I live in Beaumont I just smacked myself back to reality . This brewery was started in 1664 , I believe soon after Jesus walked the earth . Kronenbourg beer is now owned by Carlsberg . 1664 is Kronenbourg`s flagship brew .

The beer poured a nice golden yellow with a large head that dissolved in a moderate rate of time (does beerhead dissolving time really mean jackshit ?) . The first few sips went down nice and smooth and you know what boy`s and girl`s ........So did the rest ! This was a damn good beer and I wished I bought more then just one ! If you see this one in a store buy it , you will be happy you did ! < see , exclamation point . That means I really liked it.

Yes , I`m proud of the new bottom bracket (all those who cannot spot the new bottom bracket hang your heads in shame !) Chris King , you are my hero ! .............Well hopefully , we will just have to see how it works yet ....

Hitachino beer which was founded in 1996 was established under the Kiuchi brewery which was founded in 1823 Yes , another brewery that was founded in the late 1800`s.... act shocked ! The Hitachino brand has several flavours that have won several awards world wide , I`m giving the bottle a pat on the back as we speak .

There was an incident tonight as I got home from a dinner out where the test beer sat in the car and got warm . I got home and put it in the freezer , forgot about it playing with my puppies , and the top half froze ! Oh No ! Thus, with that being said , we at Lonebiker Headquarters feel the test may have been compromised with the beer going from warm to frozen in a relatively short time all thanks to some Goddamn Puppies ! But yet , what the hell do I know about beer physics ? On to the test now, First feeling this may be ruined I just drank from the bottle . The smell was something I would compare to alot of European beers , and so was the first taste ......bitter . The beer got better as it went down and I could notice a hint of cedar . It does remind me of the woods somehow .........Oh yes ! the cedar ! This is one beer I could recommend to somebody who would appreciate a different fine brew . I know they would love it ! Just one thing , this one may be hard to find .

Mmmmmm , draft beer ! there is nothing like going to a pub and downing a few fine draft brews ! Meet Miller Genuine Draft . Introduced in 1985 as the original cold filtered packaged draft beer . Meaning the beer is not heat pasteurized ........Meaning ........Do you really want me to tell you ? Oh ! You people are annoying ! Look it up yourselves ! The Miller brewery was established in 1855 and still proudly stands where it was founded in Milwaukee Wisconsin ...... That`s pretty cool !

I didn`t pour this one and I should expect the beer police over any minute as you should pour this beer . Oh beer police I am truly sorry ! Can you just let me review this beer now ? The taste is fairly average and doesn`t make me want to do somersaults in the back yard like I do when I have a great beer (I always end up spilling the beer everywhere when I do that) . It is hard to discern the right taste to write down here . It is draft beer but doesn`t have the same "pub draft taste" . Should I have poured it into a pint ? Maybe . Would it have made a difference ? Probably not . It`s smooth and there is no bad aftertaste thus it is good .

Coffee Saturday . Second Cup , San Agustin

Back to a coffee review as I missed last nights beer review thanks to a late return from a bike ride . Yes , I could have reviewed one tonight but I will be making my "watching UFC fighting debut" at a friends place . I have an Ed Hardy t shirt , a white tap out hat with a wide rim (that will be worn backwards) , and of course white sunglasses and some gold jewellery that will go well with the occasion . I may get my ass kicked once they see me .

Second cup coffee has always been a favorite of mine . San Agustin , one in their lineup that comes from Columbia and is a medium roast . San Agustin is an estate coffee meaning it is a specific area that uses the same farming practises to create a precise flavor . This one is brewed in the Huila region of Columbia ...........Where the hell is that ? Somewhere in Columbia I guess !

The taste of this is coffee is hard to discern , as coffee is hard to review . I can taste some slight hints of fruit but those are overpowered by the "coffee flavor"........Yes , I know . I suck as a reviewer . Gimme a break , coffee is hard shit to review .......

Beer Friday (Special long weekend Sunday night edition)

Bring on Rogue ale , from the lovely state of Oregon ( I mean that in a literal sense) Rogue ale was founded in 1988 in Ashland . The lucky brew being tested tonight is Santa's private reserve ale , one out of approximately 35 beers in the Rogue lineup ........Take that Budweiser ! This one is a special Christmas holiday brew , as seeing as how I am coming to the end of my summer holiday`s it seemed fitting .

This beer according to their website features "a double hopped red , with a roasty malty flavour and a hoppy spruce finish ." The pour showed it`s true colours which were obviously red , but to me it had a hint of burgundy in it , a proud two finger head that lasted for a few minutes topped this brew off . I found the taste to be quite bitter with a nice aftertaste that made you want to take another sip . This is one you would want to get in your stocking this Christmas cause it`s special , but that`s it , just one .

What tastes great after a fine day of snowshoeing ? You guessed it ......Beer ! We can probably go on all day here , so I`ll just stop now . I was working in the yard all day as my bikes lay comatose and silent in my den downstairs .......Oh how pathetic , so it`s time to try filling the void with a beer review .

Introducing Bud Light Lime , Budweiser`s answer to taking the manliness out of beer . Introduced in mid 2008 it was impossible to find in stores as the demand far outweighed the production . Yes I will admit I was intrigued and did try some last summer and thought it was good . I will admit , I don`t like it when breweries do weird shit to their beer . This isn`t all that bad as people have been adding lime to their beer for a while now , and Budweiser is saving the consumers all that hard work , and expecting nothing in return ! Isn`t that fabulous of them !

No pour here , and the aroma was , wait a minute .........Lime ! The taste was , wait a minute .......It tastes like lime ! I will admit , I don`t mind the taste . In fact I like it ! It is definitely different . if your after beer that tastes like beer then stay the hell away ! I think any idiot would know what they are getting into once they saw the box. This stuff is good for working in the backyard , or hanging around the beach on a nice hot day . I`m now three quarters done with the bottle and cannot get how this came from beer . It tastes like something you would get in a 7 eleven slushie fountain .

O.K , I will give you 10 seconds to guess where tonight`s beer is from ..................Times up ! I was wanting the city it was from , so you all are losers , except for you you . The one in the white t-shirt with the backwards steelers ballcap , you win the prize ! Once there is lonebiker merchandise available you will get a free pair of boxers ! How awesome will you be !!! The city is Bangalore and yes , that is in India . Taj Mahal is brewed by United Breweries which was established in 1857 . You may have heard of Kingfisher beer , which is the flagship of United Breweries .

Being as this is a pretty cool looking beer , I poured it into a pint and watched the two finger head dissolve into a golden flavorful looking brew below . The smell was similar to all the popular beers you would get here ......and so was the taste "average" it has no bad aftertaste , yet not too exciting . I can`t find anything bad to say about this one though , but can`t find much good to say either .

Coffee Saturday

On some of the hottest days of the year the decision was made to review some coffee ........Hot coffee I might add , and not ice cold soothing beer . Some might say this was a poor decision and I could not agree more . I have been tinkering with the idea of a coffee review and have finally brought the idea to fruition and everybody is excited over at lonebiker HQ over in Biloxi Mississippi .

Sun Burst coffee from Costa Rica comes form the highest regions in central Costa Rica . The high altitude produces "strictly hard bean varieties" regarded as the best variety of coffee form those snotty coffee drinking Europeans (they should know , shouldn`t they ?). I am drinking the light roast , Tarrazu coffee . Light roast Coffees typically have the most flavour as the longer roasted coffees flavours are typically "burnt away" therefore hiding any of the bad qualities the bean may have . Wow , don`t you feel smarter now ?

I am now onto my second cup of Tarrazu and have enjoyed it quite immensely . I always save the good stuff for the weekends and drink the shit during the work week making Saturday mornings all that much better ! It has great aroma when first opening the package , and the taste is very good with a mellow rich taste .......May I remind you I am an amateur beer/coffee reviewer ! This stuff is great ! Don`t just take my word on this , order some now !

From the third biggest beer company in the world we bring you Heineken . The favorite beer of trendy bar dorks everywhere . If you want to look cool at a party I suggest you buy a six pack of these babies to really impress your friends and all the chicks ! People will say ....oooh , he is drinking Heineken , he must be cool ! And a little bit exotic !

Well , to hell with trying to be cool . This is a beer review and that`s what`s going down . Heineken is from Amsterdam which shocked me a little cause I always thought it was German . It was founded in 1864 and is now very popular worldwide . The beer was even in an Austin Powers movie when Austin said "get your hands off my hiney" (he was referring to his beer) .... HA HA HA .

I have had this beer many times before (at the bar and at parties) and always enjoyed it . Tonight though it gets tested . I didn`t pour this into a glass as I am a shitty beer reviewer and just drank from the can . I can`t get much of an odor as my nose is plugged from the evil allergy fairy . The taste is a little off as the allergies are quite bad therefore making this beer review even shittier then ever .

I don`t mind the taste as it is quite common with all the major beer brands (Bud , Coors) with a light skunky aftertaste ....Maybe skunky is the wrong word but that is what it is too me .

After starting the 12 hours of fun today just a tad early , I am now off for the weekend and hope to get a bike ride in . Sunday`s out now , so all have is Sarurday .........OH GOD NOT THIS AGAIN ! THE FONT HAS CHANGED ...............DAMMIT !!!!! Oh there we go , I think I fixe......MOTHERFU**** Can you wait 5 minutes ? I`ll see if I can fix this little problem . Oh ! What do you know it switched !That shit is really weird .

On to the beer now . Hobgoblin beer has an actual Hobgoblin on the bottle derived from Marvel comics . Although the one on the bottle looks a little more realistic . It is brewed by Wychwood brewery in Witney , Oxfordshire , England . Do you see the theme here ? As long as England is in the world cup , English beers will get the love ........Or will they ?

The beer has a stronger musty , wood smell , making you a little leary of taking a sip , but not me case I am brave ........and , not too bad . It has somewhat of a nutty , maybe with a little licorice , coffee and chocolate . Yo ask how I got all that from one sip ? I made all that up just to sound smart ......HA !
I like it , it does have a hint of coffee (at least that`s what I get) This is a full bodied ale that would scare away most girly men who drink light beer .

Beer Friday on a Saturday . Black Sheep Ale

Again from jolly old England ........well not so jolly England with the way they are performing in the World Cup we bring you Black Sheep Ale from Markham , Yorkshire , England . This brewery was established in the early 90`s at the time grunge was starting to get big and MC Hammer was doing his thing with those big lame ass pants . The logo is quite popular in England and is found in lot`s of pubs that don`t even supply the beer which made this beer reviewer scratch his head and think that was a little strange .

No pour as this was a bottle and I do prefer drinking from a bottle . The aroma was nice , I thought it was a good way to start things off , the taste sure doesn`t disappoint either with a good pleasant fruity taste . I am sure enjoying it sitting here after two rides on a beautiful Saturday .

My apologies for the short review , an Ewok followed me home and I am a little nervous as it`s sitting on my front lawn staring at my dog .

On the eve of England`s first world cup game versus those pesky Americans in South Africa tomorrow afternoon I bring you a beer I have enjoyed before . To be honest this is what my Dad would bring over when he was going to hang out for an evening and I haven`t had one since he died until tonight . Newcastle is one of England`s premier beers with leading sales in the country . Newcastle is ironically brewed by Heineken (you know ....Germany) but started in 1927 in Newcastle Upon Tyne . So far on all the beer reviews this one has the best website by far .

I drank it straight from the bottle as that`s what I did when I had it with my Dad , while he would pour half in a glass and let it sit and warm up , when he finished the half glass he would pour the rest in and slowly finish ....I always thought it was a strange way to drink beer but everyone has their ways I guess . The taste of this beer is really good , almost to the point of being outstanding . It is sweet and almost has a nutty taste with no bad aftertaste . I think I`ll have another ! Go try some of this stuff , it`s available everywhere . From the Philippines comes a beer that will kick you in the ass , and when your down it will kick you a little more . Brewed by the San Miguel beer superpower , this is the strongest beer in their lineup , 8% .......Ya , that`s right ! I feel badass just typing that . If your scared and girly when it comes to strong beer I suggest you stop reading this beer review and go back to your facebook page and keep on with the virtual farm brotha ! I personally saw a can of this beer stabbing a prominent Edmonton gang member in the neck in my river valley just the other night . I heard Chuck Norris even treats this stuff with respect . This beer commands respect , and gets it ........You know what ? I`ve seen plenty of high % beers out there so maybe this one isn`t so badass as the brewers want it to be .

As far as the tasting goes , a prominent , member of the Philipines government donated this to Lonebiker.com headquarters in Toronto , Ontario so I should start treating this with some respect .........Or should I ?

The pour went well and the beer had a nice gold color with a small one and a half finger head that didn`t last very long at all (probably cause it`s such a rebel) . The first sip told me right away that this was a higher alcohol beer , but after a few more the harshness went away and it tasted quite good (and not because I`m tipsy) A good beer though , this would be good stuff to be sitting around a campfire with and telling riding stories .

Tonight`s beer review comes from Canadian Tap House on the south side of Edmonton , where we learned lot`s of giant douchebags congregate and hang out ........Seriously , it was that bad ! Joining me tonight was a good friend by the name of Justin . The beers tested tonight were Sleemans honey brown and Becks (both draft). Unfortunately being in a bar all the research usually obtained on this amazing beer review site on the history of the beer being tested cannot be obtained as there were too many distractions amongst us .

As far as the tasting went Justin enjoyed his quite well and said it had "a robust honey flavour with a mellow aftertaste that leaves you wanting more" ..........well Damn ! That`s alot better then what I wrote down "my beer is a fine ale that you could find anywhere" . What the hell was that ? I hope to have Justin over soon to do a serious beer review in the exclusive "lonebiker.com beer testing lab"

In the end , I enjoyed mine quite a bit and so did Justin .

Beer Friday . Youngs Luxury Double Chocolate Stout

Chocolate beer you ask ? Why yes , yes it is . From Wandsworth in the sunny United Kingdom comes a beer that many would probably be afraid to try . Youngs brewery was established in 1831 and was brewed in the famous Ram brewery up until it`s closure in 2006 . What`s special about the brewery is it pretty much remained unchained since 1831 , although it did have modern equipment in it , it still had original equipment from the good old days . Up until the end shire horses and drays were used in delivering the beer within a mile of the brewery . Youngs is now brewed by Wells & Young`s brewery in Bedford , U.K , the proud home of the Bedford Eagles .

Chocolate beer has been around for some time now and is made by using a more aromatic malt (sometimes a chocolate malt , a malt that has been roasted or kilned until it acquires a chocolate color........thank you wikepedia) . Several breweries offer a chocolate beer , there is a rumor that Miller is making a chocolate beer .

The opening of the bottle was an event as I looked in and it looked like fog on the inside of the bottle . The pour went well and I realized how dark this beer was ,the head was big and remained for around 5 minutes . As you can see by the photo it was quite dark as you couldn`t see through the bottle . The first sip was not very good but I realized I should give this a few as I am just not used to beer like this . Low and behold once the bottle was half empty I was enjoying it . It had a slightly bitter taste when it first hit the mouth but that went away quickly and my mouth was full of chocolately beer goodness . The beer is quite good but obviously not for everyone . Aside from the chocolate , it had coffee and a little bit of nut flavor in it as well . If you ever see this in a store grab one ! It`s worth the experience .

The land chock full of Kiwis is the main attraction of our beer review this Friday night . A proud supporter of the All-Blacks rugby team , the beer is the countries main brew . It was established in the late fifties and was introduced in America in 1973 otherwise known as "the decade of the disco"...........Oh yes , if you haven`t figured out where this beer comes from it`s New Zealand . Have I mentioned that New Zealand is pretty much the coolest country in the world ? Next to Rwanda , Albania , and of course Afghanistan .....HA HA HA HA , I kill me !

When I was drinking this beer I couldn`t help to think of being in New Zealand and doing all the great things one can do there . I`m sure this beer has been drank around campfires and in pubs with lucky people talking about their epic days . The taste is quite all right and I could sit around and have a few more , I do detect a little bitterness in here but it`s nothing too bad to get excited about and throw furniture around (I do that when I have bad beer ). In the end , not bad beer , but would I go out of my way to buy some ? Probably not .

After an incredibly gay week of non-riding it looks like it is finally over and I can review some beer . Do I deserve to review beer . No , with splendid new wheels and brakes that still have to be broken in .........Oh and there is the matter of the Moots sitting and collecting dust .....It`s a freakin Moots ! Your supposed to ride the shit out of it !

Well I`m done , on to the beer .......

Old Milwaukee is a very proud American beer which I found strangely brewed in Ontario (according to the can)After a wikipedia search I realized it is brewed by Pabst brewing in ........well somewhere in Americaville . Wiki wasn`t working too well for me tonight . I will say that this can has always peaked my interest in those cold beer coolers as it always displayed some fine looking ladies on the side . Now that`s genius ! What a great way to sell beer ! I`m sure there are a few pathetic guys who bought this beer because of the "graphics".

The pour gave me a very large 5 finger head that took a long time to dissolve making me think that I should do some investigating and figure out why different beers leave different heads , maybe some other time though cause I really don`t care . As for the taste let me tell you this first . This is considered an "economy beer " , so don`t expect much . I didn`t and was happy with what it offered , not a bad tasting average American ale that will leave change left over for those delicious cheesy poofs that go so great with beer .

Beer Friday . Sapporo

All the way from the great country of Japan , land of sushi , Geisha dolls , giant man eating monsters and of course , hot Japanese girls , comes Sapporo beer . Brewed in Ebisu , Shibuya and Tokyo (where the hell is that last one ?) the brewery opened in 1876 back before Godzilla roamed the Earth spreading terror and destruction on our beloved Japanese friends . It is believed the Godzilla went extinct in 1994 , and since then peace and understanding has been bestowed on the Japanese people .

The pour went well despite spilling it all over my swell looking Ikea desk . There was a a good 4 finger size head that lasted for an impressive 4 minutes ........Is that good ? I seriously don`t know ! The taste is quite what you would expect from a Budweiser or Coors light , and I am happy with that .......Good stuff ! Now so you know when drinking this beer you won`t feel like your in Tokyo drinking one at a maid cafe watching "the human tetris" game show cause that`s just not going to happen ........okay !

Beer Friday . Okanagan Spring 1516 Bavarian Lager

On a rather happy Friday despite the weather (why am I happy ?.....oh yes ! The Mojo is now a screamin trail slaying machine) . Okanagan Spring started in 1985 in the heart of the Okanagan valley in oh-so-awesome British Columbia (if only we could rid of all those damn hippies). Now that would be the life wouldn`t it . Working at a brewery in the heart of B.C .......DEEAAMMM ! Well back to reality now , I have honestly never heard of this beer until tonight but judging from the Internet it does seem fairly popular . And my friends let me tell you , the Internet knows all !

I was lazy with this one and skipped the pour and just drank from the bottle . According to Okanagan Spring they kept it simple with barley , hops , grains and water and you get a simple beer . It tasted fine by my pro standards . With a flavour that is mild, it doesn`t gross you out, yet it doesn`t get you excited either .

This weeks beer comes from Mexico and stands under it`s big brother who we all know and love (well , most do) "Corona" . Brewed in Monterrey Mexico from a brewery I am not even going to try and spell out (sometimes my Superior Spanish skills are lacking). The brew was founded in 1890 and they claim to be the "original" Mexican beer .

I did make a mistake tonight and realized we needed lime . Sadly , like Corona you need to add another ingredient to make it taste what the brewer intended ......And that`s just gay kids . Maybe I am a boob , but don`t you think the beer should just taste what it was intended for out of the bottle ? As far as taste goes it was very light and should have been served with a lime (have I said that yet ?)

Maybe better on a beach far far away , now get lost ! (this shit made me grumpy)

A local brew ......Well sort of . From Calgary , home of the Godless flames , Stampeders and way to many cowboys . The makers of this one were bought out by Big Rock who are still proudly brewing it . As I searched for a beer review candidate tonight this little gem caught my eye and it was all in the name . You see there is a trail in Banff named the Bow Valley Bomber which is quite boring compared to some of the other trails in that area , but I would give up my left and half my right testicle to ride that stuff right now ...........Yes , springtime allergy season has been a killer this year .

The pour ......... Yes I did the pro thing and poured this one into a glass and it poured just fine , in the end there was a two finger head that dissolved quickly . The color was clear much like what you would get with Budweiser . First sips were good and so were the last . I would recommend this to you if you are out and about in a beer store looking for something that ales you .........Ha Ha Ha

Ahhhh Friday night beer review ! Is there anything better ? No I answer you ! absolutely not ! I am hoping to have all the beer reviews compiled down into one sweet little link (maybe I`ll work on that tomorrow)

A fine young lad by the name of Omar (name hidden to protect identity) has been harassing me for some time now of the beauty of Steam Whistle and how I should review it . I could not find the stuff for the longest time and alas it was in my own backyard . Steam Whistle is brewed in Toronto .......Ewwww , Toronto , say no more . Those people are assholes ! Oh no , just kidding ! It`s an Albertan thing , you know to hate everything east and west of us . From what the map shows the brewery is very close to the Sky dome and the Cn tower . So in an afternoon you could go watch a Blue Jays game , take a ride up the tower and then go get smashed at the brewery ......There is a tear welling up in my eye as I hum Oh Canada .

The beer comes in green bottles which is pretty cool yet plays games with your taste buds a little as it looks like you are drinking water . After a few sips it goes away and you are left with a pleasant tasting brew . I didn`t pour this into any glass as I was enjoying the look of the bottle too much . As I just said , Steam Whistle is a good decent beer . Now comparing it to some of the smash hits I`ve had on here it would be hard to put this brew in the same category as some of the lonebiker heavyweights .

So on to the beer . From Kelowna (I hear there`s biking there) Tree brewing offers us Thirsty Beaver Amber Ale . Offered as a medium bodied ale there isn`t much said about it on their website . I haven`t heard much about Tree brewing before but when you see a beaver drinking a beer the size of him you know you have to have it .

The pour went well with a head staying with it for quite some time , the beer had a darker texture to it . The taste was fine with me but was nothing to get excited about . I didn`t like the aftertaste that lingered in my mouth for some time , the only way to get rid of that was to have another sip but then came that damn aftertaste again ...........damn .

Beer Friday . Stella Artois

In a way to be completely unpatriotic on a night where hockey is god , I thought I would review a beer not from Canada . Instead I reviewed a beer from Belgium . A very popular beer I might add from which I have sampled a few times (this goes great with ribs) . The tax records show that this brew was started in 1366 ....................Holy Shit ! That`s older than lot`s of countries ! (including our beloved Canada) . Stella is brewed all over the world but their home brewery is in Leuven where I`m sure some kickass raves have taken place , Yeahh baby !

For being such a mainstream brew it is quite good , as I said before I thoroughly enjoy it on a Friday or Saturday night when I`m out for dinner making my fat ass larger with ribs . The taste is quite pleasant , it goes down smooth but does have a slightly bitter aftertaste . All in all I like this stuff ! If you haven`t tried it , go out and buy some (and some ribs). The only drawback is the price . It is higher than most other beers (domestic & imported) which may draw douchy losers who exclusively drink this stuff at the bars to try to impress people .........Beware !

If you paid attention and did your lonebiker.com homework , essays , and short stories you would remember last beer Friday I had started to get sick and felt it would jeopardize the integrity of the review . Brothers and sisters I reviewed it anyway . One week later I am still afflicted with this horrible affliction and alas I must review something even though I am afflicted !

Bring on the Neo Citran . Perfect for going to bed with a sore throat , working sick , walking around the house whining , hoping your wife will feel sorry for you ............Well , plainly just for being a giant little bitch (does that make sense ?) . So with two cases of being sick in the last three months . Neo Citran was called up for this round after one week of sickness debauchery .

The pour . Well , the boiling water dissolved the crystals in my favourite little "Salsa" mug . The taste , oddly enough , alot like medicine . Yet soothing , when drinking it your throat feels better ....................................O.k , wait . Hold on ! What`s wrong with me ? Why do embarrass myself like this ? Reviewing flu medicine ? ..................Sheeez ........I`m done

Ahhhhh , the weekend is here ! I'm feeling a sore throat coming on so this review is may not be up to it`s full potential . What`s worse , this may throw off my "weekend warrior" abilities for this weekends bike rides ..................Doh !

Fullers beer comes from London England . Home of Soccer , the Queen , and of course The Sex Pistols . This brew is organic and made with honey , thus giving it that special honey taste (imagine that) Yet again another brewery that was around before Hitler . This one was founded in 1845 before Hitlers Dad (imagine being the Father of that guy ..........sheesh)

As far as the tasting goes it seems quite good and delivered what it was supposed to , but to be fair I don`t want to get in depth as my taste buds are currently ruined from the coming on of a sore throat . How gay is that ?

A special Thursday night beer review on the eve of a rather shitty day . I bring you Howe Sound , Father Johns , Winter Ale . I reviewed a Howe Sound beer before so I won`t spare the details of the beers origin . If you cannot remember than you do not deserve to operate a computer , Ya hear me ? The beer originates from Libya , that`s right Libya . Paying attention now assholes ?

Sorry about that , from beautiful Squamish comes a beer that just plainly tastes great . They claim to only brew this during the late fall months (that`s before winter) and as I mentioned it does taste quite good . It reminds me of maple wood for some strange reason , made with a blend of ginger , nutmeg , vanilla , cinnamon , molasses , honey and yellow sugar so I guess the maple wood makes little sense does it ? Or am I just nuts ?

From the land of Canadian love comes Le Messagere . Born in a microbrewery in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts , Quebec . This beer is very proud to be one of the few in the world that offer gluten free beer , a process that takes care to make but I`ll be honest . I don`t give a jack shit about ! The one thing that gluten free beer is good for is people with health problems who can`t drink regular beer . So in the end , this brewery is doing the world a good deed arn`t they ?

On to the beer , the pour went well as I didn`t spill any on the counter , oh wait that was me who did something awesome and not the beer ..........................Hooray for me ! The beer has a red look to it in the glass and the head dissolved rapidly . The taste was sweet at first and after a few sips it settled in to a rather pleasing brew with (I guess) hints of fruit and , oh wait....... The best way to explain this one is , picture putting a tap on a magical beer fruit tree and from out of this tree you pour this french ale into a tall pint , sit back and read some Victor Hugo literature , and talk about nothing but lovemaking and wine tasting . Ahhh the french !

Tuborg Gold

From the land of the wooden shoes comes Tuborg Gold from Copenhagen . Yet again one of those breweries that have been around longer than Andy Rooney . Doing some research so I can make this review kick some ass I checked out their website , and sadly it is pretty much party central and I found that a little lame .

I poured this bad boy into my faithful seahawks mug and watched some NFL playoff action and was surprised on how fast the head dissolved . The beer had a somewhat yellowy golden look to it (I`m starting to sound like a professional now eh ?) The first taste was a little off for me as it was a tad bitter , but I kept tasting it and it started to grow on me .

This beer is somewhat famous ..............well , you know . Other than being popular in Europe . It was featured on the Simpsons where Homer called it "the beer of Danish Kings"

From lovely England comes this ale proudly brewed by Carlsberg brewing in Leeds , west yorkshire , in jolly old England . The brewery was founded in 1822 by Joshua Tetley and was eventually taken over by Carlsberg in 1998 (those limey bastards!) This of course should not be confused with Tetley Tea (even though their both British) If you think for once during this stellar review that I`m reviewing tea I will personally come to your house and flog you !

Halfway through my can of Tetley`s and I am quite satisfied , it is what it is , an english ale . Some people are not into that kind of thing , this would be the perfect beer to sit back in a pub and relax with some good friends and watch the Tottenham Hotspurs play a match with Arsenal . I seriously am digging this stuff and if you are in the mood for something good that ales you than get some Tetley`s .

Beer Friday. New Years tripleheader

Whats this you ask . A new years eve beer testing extravaganza ? Why yes is is ! I chose three fine looking beers from around the world including one from our own country . Canada . AHHH I have a tear in my eye as I type this ...........................what the hell happened to the font ? Weird , I cant seem to find out how to get it back to normal as my mad typing hit some combination and voila . Anyways , on to the testing .

Stiegl beer (bier means beer , in case you were wondering)

The first test tonight comes from a little country by the name of HEY ! The fonts back ! Ummmm , where was I ? Oh yes . A little country by the name of Austria . A country well known for their quality beer , hey I like them already . The Stiegl brewery is located in the city of Salzburg (just slightly east of Beaumont).

With this first test I have to admit I was a little apprehensive as I have tried other strange never heard of before beers and was not too happy . Yet Stiegl (which means stairs) made me a believer again , this is some good stuff . Tastes like a good old regular common ale (my lord , I`m such an amateur) No bad aftertaste , and all that other stuff I say when I want to try to look like I know what I`m talking about .

Stiegl gets 3.4 suds out of 5

Alexander Keiths India Pale Ale

Established in 1820 (so it says on the bottle) this beer has been around for a while . Halifax Nova Scotia is where you would fine this great Canadian landmark . Alexander Keith emigrated to Canada in 1817 and opened the brewery in 1820 . Little did he know that he would become a Canadian icon . Alexander Keiths beer sadly belongs to Labatts now .

In all my years I have never tried a Keiths untill tonight and Oh my ! What have I been missing ! This stuff is great ! It`s much better than all the mainstream beers out there . Each sip is like having sweet beer fairies dancing around my mouth . I can honestly say nothing bad about Alexander Keiths India Pale Ale and would highly recommend it to all who have not tried it yet .

A staggering 5 suds out of 5 ..............A new record people !

Banks Caribbean lager , and a spice rack

Now that I`m into my third beer I can`t help feeling a little tipsy .hhhhhhhhhhhhey Have I ever told you that I really like you guys .....................I do I really do ......................I`m not just saying that . O.k Banks is located in Barbados and has been around since 1956 , from what I gathered from their website they are Barbados and Guyana official party beer . You know the kind of beer that all sorts of silly pasty white people drink when they vacation in these countries . How does it taste ? Lets see , shall we.

First taste , a little weak , shall I remind you that I just came off an Alexander Keiths which blew my mind . Banks isn`t too bad though , after I settled into it I was happy with the taste and couldn`t help daydreaming of what it would be like sitting on a beach and sipping a few of these . Oh wait were in Canada and the temperature is - 25° .................Back to reality ! This is good beer though and yes I would recommend this one too .

From Belgium we bring you Fruli from Belgium ? What the hell is wrong with me ? Anyways I thought I would try to get Christmasy and find a holiday themed beer and this is as close as I got . I guess Beaumont liquor stores are low on selection (who would have thought that !)

The thing that was odd tonight was once I made my selection all I could taste was strawberry , this was before I got home and opened the bottle up . When I got home my wife and one of my kids was wearing reddish pinkish strawberry looking pajamas .....................weird ! I would be lying if I told you I like strawberry flavour , really not one of my favourites . So to be fair I will let my lovely bride who loves strawberry flavour tell you all about it ........o.k , she`s shy .

Anyways , this beer is not shy on the strawberry ! If you`re into that get it . If not than stay away .

Thanks to me working late today so I could save up for more bike stuff (giddidy giddidy) I had to get the lovely wife to go pick up tonights tester . Yes , in the middle of a blizzard , yes I`m a jackass . Anyways this same brand of beer was the first test in my weekly kickass beer review , luckily this was a different brew so I didn`t have to flog her ............ha ha ha ha

Innis and Gunn blonde , the early test was original . This was quite good (like the first) it was smooth , went down easy and had a hint of vanilla (I guess that explains "blonde" on the bottle) I really enjoyed my Innis tonight and sadly wanted more but it`s freakin blizzarding outside ...................wait a minute . SHERI , YOU WANNA GO PICK UP MORE OF THAT INNIS STUFF YOU BOUGHT ! oh silly me , I`m not supposed to type my yelling . She won`t go anyways .........may the flogging begin !

From the lovely country of Lebanon comes this rare beer . 961 , there story is a little different than the rest you may have heard and know . It`s usually a couple of brothers who buy an abandoned warehouse and start there dream of owning a brewery , or the classic tale of a brewery started in the 1800s and got passed down from generation to generation.........ppthhhhhhh.........gag me with a wooden spoon ! 961 has all these guys beat , they started in 2006 in the middle of a war (in Lebanon of all places...........who woulda thought that !)

you see , while the Isrealis were bombing the hell out of Lebanon these guys started a brewery , now that`s hardcore ! Take that Coors ! First Impressions of 961 were not that good as me and Sheri took a sip and well let`s say , were not too kind about the flavor .

I went to the beer testing lab and did some more research and was surprised from my findings . Well , o.k only one thing surprised me and that was the pour , this stuff had a bigger head than Marge Simpson . I`ve never seen that before . The smell was a bit sour which I find common with alot of eastern beers (but then again , what the hell do I know) The taste was sour as well and I would say if you have a taste for sour beers then get it if you can find it . I got lucky .

Oh Canada we stand on guard fo.........wait a minute !

I used to wonder why most beer reviews would review beer that was out of the ordinary , that came from small breweries in strange and faraway places . You know . Breweries that try there hardest to make a good beer . You know unlike the mainstreem beers like the one I had tonight .I now understand . Mainstream beer kind of sucks.

Presenting Molson Canadian , Canada`s crown jewel of beer , NHL hockey playoff batter , songs have been written about this stuff (so I think), this beer is being drank in every Canadian town as I type this (when you think about it , that`s alot of Molson Canadian) . There is alot of Canadian pride that is involved in this beer ..............or used to be . In 2005 molson merged with coors therefore ending it`s reign as a proud Canadian and became American (ooooh the irony)

I`ll admit I wasn`t to saddened to hear the news at the time , in fact I had a good laugh . The Molson "I am Canadian" pride commercials annoyed the hell out of me , they were directed and played by Americans (it`s called marketing people) and they were good at it . Those commercials had won over the hearts of just about every high school kid at the time .

As far as the beer goes , it tastes like shit . I`ll admit , I do drink Budweiser which isn`t that far off from Molson Canadian with less of that skunky taste ..............he he he . The last month I have tried new beers which have awakened me in a whole new beer tasting light . Unfortunatedly those are expensive , so I`ll just have to wait till Friday night to try new beers . this bottle is huge !

Another beer from the great province of British Columbia , this time Squamish is the town this ale hails from . This bottle is a giant . One litre to be exact ! Which is why it is a recloseable bottle (what kind of wuss would want that ?) The overall look of the bottle is pretty cool actually and I felt bad by spoiling it ....................o.k no I didn`t

My advanced beer reviews are going one step further and I am now pouring it in a glass to see how it looks and oddly enough it looks like beer with a big white head on it ! I`m smelling it now . It doesn`t smell too bad either .......................Hey guess what ? It smells like beer !

The taste is quite good ! Those BC folks sure know how to make a fine brew . Really no bad things to say about this stuff from the most amateur beer reviewer.

I`m going to start giving my beer reviews ratings out of 5 suds . Pretty clever eh ?

Beer Friday. Lech

After a rather depressing ride home in the dark , what a better thing to do than drink beer ! Introducing Lech premium from Poland . Can`t really understand anything written on the can because it is written in Polish . Crafty little buggers those Polish ! Could be some bad things written on there for all I know !

As far as taste goes I`m not a big fan , there is a slight hint of a bitter aftertaste . Unlike last weeks beer where the taste stayed in your mouth and made you feel good all over , this made me want to go wash it down with Budweiser .

Beer Friday. Mt Begbie , Begbie Cream Ale

Revelstoke , British Columbia . Home of some of the best riding around this cute little planet of ours . One thing that goes hand in hand with riding is beer . There is nothing better than after 60+ kilometers in the saddle than enjoying a fine glass of suds .

Revelstoke is where Mt Begbie hails from and tonight I purchased Begbie Cream Ale . Damn ! this is good stuff ! coming from a guy who knows nothing about reviewing beer (see October 23 post)I don`t really know what to say except that I like it ..............................really like it ! It does have all the attributes I learned from commercials like it goes down easy , no bad aftertaste , ya know , all that crap ! It does have that cream soda flavour to it with a hint of honey ...............o.k ,that last part was printed on the bottle but give me a break I`m an amateur beer reviewer and that`s what we do .

With six beers in the Mt Begbie lineup , I`ll be anxious to try more !

As I said , I don`t know much about beer reviews . I read them in dirt rag and that`s about all I know . so if you want to read a good review I suggest you go someplace else ..............................

I finished the beer already ! Innis & Gunn original from Scotland . It was good o.k ! Are you happy now , I enjoyed it and want another but I only bought one so now I`m a little upset . I also just about got ran down by some jackass in his fancy Accord when I was going to the beer store to bring this to you people.............Yes the three who read this .
